P. A. Parenteau RW MON 6 Months

P. A. Parenteau (knee) skated on his own before Monday's practice.

He took to the ice for about 15 minutes. He has been out of action with a sprained medial collateral ligament since Mar. 10, but he appears to be getting closer to making a return. Parenteau could be available to play before the end of the regular season.

P.A. Parenteau may in fact play in a game or two before the end of the regular season.

He suffered an MCL injury in his left knee and was originally thought to be out for the rest of the regular season. However, he has been making good progess in his recovery and now it looks as if he could return to action before the Avs' final game on April 13th.

P. A. Parenteau suffered a medial collateral ligament injury to his right knee in Monday's overtime win versus Winnipeg and he's expected to miss the rest of the regular season.

"We'll see for playoffs, but he will be out for four to six weeks," coach Patrick Roy said. "He was in a lot of pain, but P.A. is a great team guy and he wanted to give it a try. He got the puck on the power play and he couldn't go back." Parenteau sat out 10 games this season because of a MCL injury, but that was to his other knee.

The Olympic break has given P. A. Parenteau an opportunity to get a fresh start.

Parenteau has had a rough season with 10 goals and 28 points in 46 games. He ended up in the press box and was seen as a prime candidate to be traded. However, with Alex Tanguay (hip) done for the season, Parenteau is likely to stay with Colorado. "Obviously, this season hasn't gone the way I wanted it to. Injuries, a slow start, things like that. But I think I'm going to hit the refresh button and go at it again," Parenteau said. "I'm going to try to play with more confidence. I know I'm an important player on this team, but I know I haven't been playing at the level I'm supposed to play." Parenteau is certainly capable of bouncing back and we'd go as far as to say that he's a good buy-low candidate.

P. A. Parenteau's name might be removed from trade consideration now that Alex Tanguay is lost for the remainder of the season because of hip surgery.

The Avalanche could use his offensive support up front even though it's been a tough campaign for him thus far. Parenteau has 10 goals and 28 points in 46 matches after he led the team in goals (18) and co-led Colorado in points (43) in 48 outings during the lockout-shortened season.

P. A. Parenteau said he'll be "patient" and a "a good pro" when discussing coach Patrick Roy's decision to make him a healthy scratch for a second straight time Thursday night.

Roy doesn't like making Parenteau a healthy scratch either, but he has some tough lineup decisions in front of him. "I like P.A. He's a great guy," Roy said. "Unfortunately in this business when you get hurt it gives opportunity for others - and that's what I ask, to take advantage of an opportunity with a player is hurt - and I like the lineup that I have right now. McGinn has scored almost every other night for us and with Tanguay, Stastny and Landeskog we're 14-1." Trade rumors have swirled around Parenteau because of his extended stay in the press box, but for now he's still on the Avalanche and he can't seem to crack the lineup since returning earlier than expected from a knee injury.

Colorado coach Patrick Roy wanted to give P. A. Parenteau some time off Monday.

Parenteau was a healthy scratch against Dallas, which led to trade speculation and a report of a rejected trade offer by Montreal. However, Roy said he simply wanted to give Parenteau a break after the winger came back three weeks earlier than expected from a knee injury. "We (will) have three games in four nights," the Colorado bench boss explained. "It's a demanding schedule, so we'll do the same thing with P.A. that we did with Alex (Tanguay)." He has nine goals and 25 points in 41 games this season.
