With T.J. Oshie out, St. Louis coach Ken Hitchcock started Steve Ott on the top line with David Backes and Alex Steen.

It seemed to work out fine as the Blues defeated the Hawks in overtime and the Backes line was very effective. Look for Ott to continue to play alongside Backes and Steen until Oshie returns.

Steve Ott and the Blues were shut out by the Stars on Friday night, losing for the fifth straight game and essentially losing their grip on the Central Division.

The Blues will need to beat the Red Wings on Sunday and the Avalanche to lose their final to games to have any shot at the division title. Steve Ott has struggled significantly since the trade from Buffalo, as the feisty 31 year old has just three assists and is a -12 in 22 games with his new club.

Steve Ott is excited to play against his former Buffalo teammates on Thursday night.

"I'm looking forward to it a lot, but I'm trying to take it like any game where you have friends out there," Ott said. "I'm just going to be myself and I expect them to be the same. There's no friends on the ice, but what's said and done on the ice stays there and gets forgotten pretty quick. I'm going to play hard against them and expect them to play hard at me. You owe that to the league." Ex-Sabres netminder Ryan Miller will be on the bench for the match and Brian Elliott will start instead. Ott was the captain for Buffalo before he was shipped to St. Louis, along with Miller, just before the trade deadline.

Steve Ott will once again play alongisde Derek Roy, with whom he played briefly in Buffalo.

The Blues' forward lines will remain the same as they have for the past three games that has produced three victories. Alexander Steen will skate on the first unit alongside David Backes and T.J. Oshie, while Jaden Schwartz, Patrik Berglund and Vladimir Tarasenko will form the second line. Derek Roy will skate between Ott and Brenden Morrow, while Magnus Paajarvi, Maxim Lapierre and Ryan Reaves will be the fourth unit. Despite playing very well this past week, Paajarvi's spot is going to be threatened when Vladimir Sobotka returns from injury in the next 10 days.

Steve Ott was credited with three hits in his St. Louis debut Sunday night.

His grittiness should allow him to fit in nicely with the "heavy" play of the Blues. "This is a team that plays hard," Ott said. "They play a well-structured game. My style of play hopefully fits in that mold. I'm just trying to help compete and help push that pace. Hopefully I contribute in some facet." He also recorded two shots and finished with just under 14 minutes of ice time.

The Buffalo Sabres have traded Steve Ott to the St. Louis Blues along with Ryan Miller.

The Blues gave up Chris Stewart as part of the same deal and Ott is likely to end up filling a similar role with St. Louis. Ott is a gritty player that will contribute occasionally offensively. For him, the biggest change from a fantasy perspective will be his plus/minus increasing from its horrid minus-26.

Steve Ott didn't join the Buffalo Sabres for their pregame warmups.

It's possible that Buffalo is holding Ott out with the intention of trading him before the night is over. Ryan Miller is a late scratch after being penciled in as the team's starter and it's possible that both players are involved in the same trade.

Steve Ott is expected to be the subject of plenty of trade rumors heading into the March 5 deadline.

He has leadership qualities and grit, which could help a contending team down the stretch and in the playoffs. Ott is also eligible for unrestricted free agency this summer and he hasn't had any talks with the Sabres on a contract extension. To his credit, he said he would like to stay in Buffalo, but he knows the decision may not be solely up to him. "I am professional enough to know the business side of things and what the situation is here as well," said the Sabres captain. "We'll see how it all plays out in the next two weeks."

Steve Ott potted his 100th career in Tuesday's loss to Florida.

He also added an assist and won 10 of his 16 faceoffs in Buffalo's 4-3 defeat. The Sabres captain has 16 points and 45 penalty minutes in 48 games this year.

Steve Ott collected two assists in Buffalo's loss to Philadelphia on Tuesday.

He was also credited with a game-high seven hits in the contest. Ott has generated just 14 points in 45 games this season, but he's earned four helpers in his past four outings. He will enter Wednesday's action at No. 7 overall in hits, with 147, but his meager point total and minus-16 rating doesn't make him an attractive fantasy option right now.
