James Neal LW PIT 1 Month

James Neal is dealing with a concussion.

This is Neal's second concussion in the span of a year. The Pittsburgh Penguins have a comfortable lead in the battle for the Metropolitan Division title, so losing Neal won't set them back too much in the short-term. They just have to hope that he'll be okay for the playoffs.

James Neal didn't participate in Thursday's practice.

It was called a maintenance day, but Penguins coach Dan Bylsma also specified that Neal would be re-evaluated on Friday. Given that the Penguins have already essentially won their division and consequently don't have much cause to push Neal to play if he's hurt, we'll list him as day-to-day for now.

It took the Penguins about half the game to find some rhythm offensively, though they still only managed to get one past Corey Crawford. Neal also led the team with seven shots on goal. The winger now has goals in five straight, good for 22 on the season. He also has 48 points and is a plus-17 this season.

James Neal will not be disciplined by the NHL for taking his third embellishing penalty this season.

Neal has certainly had his fair share of controversy this season as he has been suspended by the NHL for five games for kneeing Brad Marchand in the head and now this. The Penguins were notified that Neal would not be disciplined but the NHL could have according to the rules. Good thing that Neal has been out for 21 games through injury and suspensions or who knows how much trouble he could be in. He has 45 points in 37 games this season and is a must start.

James Neal ended his goal-scoring slump in style with the overtime winner in a 2-1 defeat of Ottawa Monday.

James Neal has not found the back of the net in his last eight games.

Neal has 17 goals in 34 games and that averages out to a 41 goal season in a very healthy season but he was far better early on as a lot of his shots have been blocked of late. He is playing on the second line with Evgeni Malkin and Jussi Jokinen and the trio have played well of late. "I'm not too worried about it," Neal said. "The chemistry is there. We just need to keep it going, because I like the way our line has been playing. Again, I just need to start putting the puck on net." Neal has been an offensive stud this season with 41 points in an injury-riddled 34 games and is a must-start.

Neal had two penalty minutes, two shots on goal and six hits. He has gone five games without a goal now, but we'd expect him to end that "slump" in short order. Tanner Glass recorded a whopping 13 hits. Sidney Crosby had a team-high four shots on goal.
