Myers will be paired with veteran shutdown defenseman Josh Gorges to begin the training camp, reports The Buffalo News.

As expected, the mercurial Myers will be paired with the dependable Gorges to begin the season as the Sabres' top pairing. Myers has struggled over the past few seasons since winning the Calder Trophy as the league's top rookie, and often looks overwhelmed by the amount of pressure placed on him. The 6-foot-8 defenseman has plenty of talent but just hasn't been able to realize it. Hopefully, Gorges will take some pressure off his shoulders and also allow Myers to take more of an offensive role. If all goes well, Myers could be in line for the best season in his rookie year. He is, without a doubt, the Sabres' best defenseman in fantasy, though the team is expected to finish near the bottom of the standings again.

There's been speculation as to whether or not the Red Wings will attempt to acquire Tyler Myers.

Detroit wasn't able to upgrade its defense on the free agent market and although Myers hasn't lived up to expectations since winning the Calder Trophy, he's still a solid defenseman with plenty of upside. Buffalo might not be inclined to trade Myers though, especially seeing as freeing up cap space is a non-factor for them at this time.

The Vancouver Canucks might pursue Tyler Myers.

They certainly have the cap space to get him after trading Jason Garrison and Ryan Kesler. Myers is coming off of a decent season, but the 24-year-old has performed well below expectations since winning the Calder Trophy in 2009-10. A change of scenery might benefit him, but the Sabres aren't likely to let him go unless they get a very good offer.

Tyler Myers suffered two broken ribs back on Mar. 25 when he slid hard into a goalpost in a game against Montreal.

He sat out the last 10 games of the season due to the ailment. The 24-year-old defender feels he needs to step up after another disappointing season for himself and for the Sabres. "Guys around my age in the room definitely have to step up and be the core of this team," Myers said. "It's a young team and we can definitely take steps this summer and become leaders."
