Mueller signed a contract with Kloten of the Swiss A League on Thursday, TSN's Darren Dreger reports.

After the Blues and Mueller mutually agreed to terminate their contract Wednesday, the 26-year-old decided to return to Europe. He finished third in Swiss A League in scoring last season, and with another successful campaign, he could get another look by an NHL club during training camp in 2015-16.

The Blues placed Mueller on unconditional waivers Tuesday, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reports.

Mueller's decision to sign a two-way contract during the offseason seemed to indicate he would accept an assignment to the minors -- which is what the Blues did Sunday -- but it turns out that was not the case, as he will be released by the Blues if he is not claimed by another team.

Mueller has reportedly cleared waivers and is likely headed for AHL Chicago, according to Lou Korac of NHL.com.

Mueller last played in the NHL in 2012-13, but he appears to be healthy and at 26 years-old could have something left. He adds depth and skill to the Blues (if he stays healthy) while stashed in the minors.

Mueller was placed on waivers by the Blues on Wednesday, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Mueller played last season in Switzerland, but signed with the Blues on a one-year, two-way deal in the offseason. The 26-year-old has failed to crack the roster, and if he passes through waivers unclaimed, he should be assigned to AHL Chicago.

Peter Mueller has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the St. Louis Blues.

Mueller had 24 goals and 46 points in 48 games with Kloten, which plays in Switzerland's top league. He'll have a tough time making the Blues' opening game roster and if he does, it will be as a bottom-six forward.

Peter Mueller has signed with the Swiss league's Kloten Flyers.

Mueller had eight goals and 17 points in 43 games with the Florida Panthers last season. His once promising career got stalled by concussion issues, but at the same time he's only 25 and it wouldn't be shocking to see him eventually return to the NHL.

The Florida Panthers didn't extend a qualifying offer to Peter Mueller but would still like to re-sign the winger.

GM Dale Tallon said the team didn't qualify Mueller because they are fearful of him taking them to arbitration. Tallon said the two sides will continue to negotiate, although Mueller will become an unrestricted free agent Friday. Mueller had eight goals and 17 points in 43 games this season.

It isn't clear if Peter Mueller will get a qualifying offer from the Florida Panthers.

He could still return to the team if he doesn't get one, but in that situation he would be eligible to listen to other offers via unrestricted free agency. Mueller posted eight goals and 17 points in 43 games for Florida in 2013.
