Moulson joined the Maple Leafs as a pro scout Tuesday, officially ending the 38-year-old's pro career, Lance Hornby of The Toronto Sun reports.

Moulson last played in the NHL in 2017-18 with the Sabres. He spent the last four seasons in the AHL with Ontario and Hershey. The winger ended with 369 points in 650 NHL contests, and he will now join his hometown team as he begins a scouting career.

It's a good sign for Moulson, who is hoping to revitalize his NHL career after getting demoted. His five-year contract has been a nightmare for the Sabres, and despite making it known they're willing to retain salary to facilitate a trade, there have been no takers. Before people get too excited about Moulson's recent scoring streak, but keep in mind that his only goal came in a 6-1 blowout loss, and four of his assists came in one game against Texas. He's playing in a scoring role in the AHL, but still lacks the conditioning and quickness to play that role in the NHL. Moulson will need to keep this up to get back in Buffalo's good graces.

Rather than sending Moulson to the Sabres' affiliate -- AHL Rochester -- he instead will go out on loan to AHL Ontario, which is tied to Los Angeles. General manager Jason Botterill stated the team "felt that with our young forwards in place in Rochester, we did not want to take away from their development and ice time by adding another veteran player at this time,". If the winger is going to be traded to another club, the Kings would appear to have the inside track, although Buffalo would likely have to retain some of his $5 million cap hit.

Moulson was placed on waivers Monday for the purpose of reassignment, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.

The move to send Moulson down to the minors could indicate Jacob Josefson (ankle) is nearing a return and could be back in the lineup against Colorado on Tuesday.The 34-year-old Moulson has played in a mere 14-games (sitting for another 13), so it doesn't come as a huge surprise he is headed down to the minors -- if he goes unclaimed.

Moulson will play Tuesday against Tampa Bay after sitting out as a health scratch, the Olean Times Herald reports.

Moulson last played on Nov. 14 against Pittsburgh, skating just 8:57 before sitting out for six straight games. Not much has changed for the Sabres, who have the worst record in the Eastern Conference and the second-worst goal differential in the league. Moulson has yet to score this season and scored just 22 goals over the past two seasons, so it's unlikely he can even move the scales against Tampa. He'll skate on the right wing with Zemgus Girgensons, who is also struggling, and rookie Kyle Criscuolo. Moulson is not a valuable fantasy asset.

Moulson skated for 12:29 and threw one shot on net in Saturday's 2-1 overtime loss to Montreal.

Moulson still has yet to find the scoresheet this season after 11 games, which is surprising since he put up 32 points in 81 games while playing in a bottom-six role last season. The 34-year-old has only shot the puck on goal eight times this year as well, despite averaging 1:32 of power-play time. Moulson is to talented to be held pointless for much longer, but it's clear his best days are behind him.

Moulson is likely to tag into Saturday's lineup versus the Islanders, who are playing host in the contest, Paul Hamilton of WGR Sports Radio 550 reports.

The Swords are making some adjustments to their lineup amour, as Moulson's projected to tag in after missing Opening Night against the Habs. He produced 32 points (14 goals, 18 assists) despite averaging only 11:36 of ice time last season, and you're likely to find him cheap in daily formats since he's a bottom-six filler who didn't get to play in that first game.
