Matt Moulson LW BUF 12 Days

Moulson recorded two assists -- one coming on the power play -- in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Flyers.

Signed to a lucrative deal by the Sabres in the offseason, Moulson has simply been unable to overcome his team context to date. Part of that is self-inflicted, but with the Sabres' top line woefully overmatched against the opposition most nights, Moulson just hasn't been able to get going. The two-assist game snapped a seven-game point drought for the winger, who has only 19 points and a minus-15 rating over 43 games.

Moulson (illness) is expected to return to the lineup Saturday against the Islanders, Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News reports.

The illness has knocked Moulson out of the Sabres' past three games, but the three-day holiday break appears to have been exactly what the wingers needed to regain health. The Sabres have already reassigned three of their forwards back to AHL Rochester, a sign that Moulson is fully expected to be available for the match against his former team.

Moulson (illness) will not return to the lineup Tuesday against the Red Wings.

Moulson didn't even take part in the morning skate with the Sabres, closing the door on an shot he had at playing Tuesday. He'll miss his third straight game with what is being called the flu, but due to the ongoing concerns about the mumps virus that has spread around the league, his situation will continue to be monitored.

Moulson (illness) will not play Sunday against the Bruins, the Buffalo News' John Vogl reports.

Buffalo coach Ted Nolan said the illness affecting Moulson is "flu-like" and would prevent the winger from making the trip to Boston. Moulson's next possible return is Tuesday against the Red Wings, though if he sits out that game as well, he would have an opportunity for extended rest thanks to the Christmas break.

Moulson will miss Saturday's game against Colorado with an illness, Paul Hamilton of WGR Sports Radio 550 reports.

We still don't know what Moulson exactly has, but he will be replaced on the roster for now by Johan Larsson. The Sabres have their next game Sunday against the Bruins.

Moulson notched his first multi-goal game of the season with two goals in a 4-3 win over Calgary on Thursday.

The Sabres' top line of Moulson, Tyler Ennis and Zemgus Girgensons continues to click as the trio combined for seven points Thursday. Moulson scored the game's first goal and the game-winner to improve to six goals and 14 points in 29 games on the season. He's still far off pace and performing below expectations, but that the first line continues to show brilliant chemistry bodes well for him. Moulson is a risky play for goals at the moment but it could pay off.

Moulson scored the game-winning goal on a power play and added an assist in Friday's win over the Canadiens.

Moulson has picked it up recently, tallying three goals and eight points in his last seven games. While he only has 11 points (four goals) in 23 games on the season, Moulson's recent play could indicate that more production is on the way. While his offensive ability is limited with the Sabres, Moulson is playing on the top line and seeing top power-play minutes, so he should at least be able to crank out 20 goals. After going goalless in his first 14 games, Moulson is starting to look like the player who who put up three consecutive 30-goal seasons with the Islanders a few years back.

Moulson scored just his third goal of the season in Saturday's 2-1 win over the Capitals.

He's struggled to pick up points this year in Buffalo, but his game has started to warm up on his last five (two goals, four assists). Roll him if you've been holding onto him -- you have to take advantage of bursts like this.

Moulson and the Sabres had their scheduled game Friday against the Rangers postponed due to the extreme weather conditions in the Buffalo region, Andrew Gross of the Bergen Record reports.

Though the Sabres were able to complete Tuesday's game against the Sharks when the snowstorm wasn't at its worst, some parts of the Buffalo region have now received up to six feet of snow, making travel extremely difficult. No make-up date has been announced yet for the game, but appears the Sabres remain on track to head to Washington for Saturday's game.

Moulson was at the center of the Sabres' six-goal outburst in Saturday's win over the Maple Leafs. The winger contributed a goal and assisted on two others in the blowout victory.

The Sabres still possess one of the more woeful offensive attacks in the league, but coach Ted Nolan seems to have found a quality top line combination in Moulson, center Zemgus Girgensons and winger Tyler Ennis. The trio accounted for eight points on the afternoon, with Moulson and Ennis tying for the team lead with three. After posting just two points in his first 14 games, Moulson is finally beginning to resemble the sniper the Sabres thought they were getting when they inked him to a five-year contract in the offseason. He's now potted two goals and delivered four assists in his last five contests.
