David Moss RW PHO 2 Days

Moss scored his second and third goals of the year -- the latter on the power play -- in Tuesday's 5-4 stunner over Detroit.

Well, that was unexpected. The former 20-goal man (back in 2008-09) still has just nine points in 52 games this year, though, so this is more likely a fluke than the beginning of a late-season offensive surge.

Moss recorded an assist in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Penguins.

Moss has a mere seven points and a minus-21 rating over 50 games this season. With the Coyotes focusing on improving their odds to land a top selection in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, Moss' rating should only dip further from here, and he won't score enough to make up for it.

Moss picked up an assist Saturday in a loss to the Red Wings. It was his second consecutive game with a point. He had two PIM and two hits in the contest.

Moss has never been a big point producer, but he has just four points and is minus-19 this year which qualifies as a disappointment. Moss almost signed to play in Europe this year, so he may be a candidate to be traded if another team has interest, as the Coyotes are widely expected to move many veterans before the trade deadline.

Playing in his 29th game of the season, Moss finally scored his first goal of 2014-15 in Thursday's 2-1 shootout loss to Carolina.

It's been truly an awful year for Moss, who missed a chunk of time with an upper-body injury and has been patently useless when on the ice, with just three points and a minus-19 rating to show for the campaign. Don't rush out to pick him up.

Moss (upper body) was activated from injured reserve Wednesday.

As coach Dave Tippett suggested a day earlier, Moss is set to return to the lineup Thursday against the Predators after he was able to resume practicing this week without any setbacks. He's been skating on the second line with Martin Erat and Martin Hanzal the last two days, but don't expect any stunning numbers from him. Even in healthier seasons, Moss has never reached the 40-point plateau in his eight NHL seasons.

Moss (upper body) is expected to play Thursday versus the Predators, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.

Moss participated fully in Tuesday's practice, with coach Dave Tippett stating afterward that he'd be surprised if the winger didn't suit up Thursday. He's expected to enter the lineup on the second line, skating next to Martin Erat and Martin Hanzal.

Moss (upper body) won't play Thursday against the Kings, but is being considered day-to-day at this point, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.

Moss is practicing and appears to be nearly all the way back from an injury that has kept him out for nearly six weeks. With an extra day of conditioning work, he could be ready to play Saturday versus the Bruins.

Moss (upper body) will travel with the team to Edmonton but is doubtful to play Monday, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.

Moss' injury is believed to be in his hand, but has caused him to miss over a month at this point. His return should add a little extra offensive prowess to a Coyotes club averaging just 2.29 G/GP.

Moss (upper body) is hoping to return to practice next week, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.

Moss, who is apparently dealing with a hand injury, has resumed stick-handling drills. He is no longer wearing protection on his hand, but he still has a few steps to go before he resumes playing.

Moss (upper body) practiced with the team in a non-contact jersey Monday, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.

The winger hasn't suited up since October 23 against the Wild, and is still probably a week or two away from returning. Keep an eye out for Moss to be cleared for contact before the Coyotes activate him off of IR.
