Allen (illness) was activated from injured reserve Monday.

Allen has been over his bout with the flu for at least a week, but the Canadiens simply haven't needed his services yet. It looks like holding down a regular role with Montreal could be hard to come by for the veteran blueliner.

Allen (illness) was placed on injured reserve Monday.

Allen had been a healthy scratch over the Habs' previous two games, so the move to IR won't do much to change his situation. He'll be eligible for activation ahead of Friday's game versus the Kings.

Allen made his Montreal debut in Saturday night's win over Boston. He rotated on the third defensive pairing, playing a total of 14:30 in the win.

Head coach Michel Therrien has been dressing seven defensemen of late, which has resulted in fewer than normal minutes for all of the blue-liners. That's something that can pay dividends over the long haul for older rear-guards like Sergei Gonchar (17:28) and Anrei Markov (18:44).

Allen was traded to the Canadiens on Thursday in exchange for forward Rene Bourque.

Allen becomes the second addition the Habs have made to their blue line in the last two weeks, after the team acquired Sergei Gonchar from the Stars via trade Nov. 11. The 34-year-old, who appeared in six games with the Ducks, doesn't have much offensive ability in his arsenal, but he's been quite reliable in his own zone over his career. He's in the final season of a three-year, $10.5 million contract, so he'll just amount to a rental player for the Habs.

Allen (lower body) was activated from injured reserve Friday.

The move verifies that Allen will return to the lineup Friday against the Coyotes, as was expected after he practiced fully Thursday. The blueliner contributed 10 points to go along with a plus-20 rating over 68 games last season.

Allen (lower body) said that he expects to play Friday against the Coyotes, Lance Pugmire of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Allen returned from his conditioning assignment at AHL Norfolk earlier this week, but the Ducks have chosen not to activate him from IR just yet. The team will likely observe him during Friday's morning skate before signing off on his entry into the lineup for his season debut.

Allen (lower body) has returned from his conditioning assignment at AHL Norfolk, but he'll remain on Injured Reserve for the time being.

Allen spent the weekend in Norfolk for what was essentially a rehabilitation assignment. It's unknown when, exactly, he'll be removed from IR, but when that time comes, Allen figures to be in the lineup on a nightly basis.
