Allen made his Montreal debut in Saturday night's win over Boston. He rotated on the third defensive pairing, playing a total of 14:30 in the win.

Head coach Michel Therrien has been dressing seven defensemen of late, which has resulted in fewer than normal minutes for all of the blue-liners. That's something that can pay dividends over the long haul for older rear-guards like Sergei Gonchar (17:28) and Anrei Markov (18:44).

Allen was traded to the Canadiens on Thursday in exchange for forward Rene Bourque.

Allen becomes the second addition the Habs have made to their blue line in the last two weeks, after the team acquired Sergei Gonchar from the Stars via trade Nov. 11. The 34-year-old, who appeared in six games with the Ducks, doesn't have much offensive ability in his arsenal, but he's been quite reliable in his own zone over his career. He's in the final season of a three-year, $10.5 million contract, so he'll just amount to a rental player for the Habs.

Allen (lower body) was activated from injured reserve Friday.

The move verifies that Allen will return to the lineup Friday against the Coyotes, as was expected after he practiced fully Thursday. The blueliner contributed 10 points to go along with a plus-20 rating over 68 games last season.

Allen (lower body) has returned from his conditioning assignment at AHL Norfolk, but he'll remain on Injured Reserve for the time being.

Allen (lower body) was able to participate in practice Monday, Kyle Shohara of AnaheimDucks.com reports.

Allen has been unable to play in any regular season games with an unspecified injury to his lower body. The 34-year-old mentioned after Monday's practice that he prefers to err on the side of caution in lieu of rushing back to the ice as quick as possible. Because of this, it's still undetermined when Allen will be able to play in his first game of the new season.

Allen (lower body) has been placed on injured reserve.

Allen hasn't played in any of the Ducks' three games and wasn't set to return anytime soon, resulting in his movement to IR. His removal from the 23-man roster will allow the Ducks to call up a forward from the minors while Patrick Maroon (knee) remains day-to-day.
