Andy McDonald has decided to retire because of post-concussion concerns. The 35-year-old forward suffered five documented concussions during his 11-year career. "The last few years too much of the focus became worrying about the next hit. I was always thinking about it," McDonald said. "I'm fortunate to get out now. I know I could play two or three more years and I love the game of hockey, but healthwise I know I shouldn't be playing." McDonald racked up 489 points in 685 games.

NHL.com's Lou Korac reports that St. Louis Blues GM Doug Armstrong didn't exactly give his teams unrestricted free agents glowing reviews. Among the most interesting names on that list: Andy McDonald, Jamie Langenbrunner, Jordan Leopold and Scott Nichol. With a cloudy goaltending situation also in mind, this could be an interesting offseason.

Andy McDonald had a plus-one rating in his return from a knee injury. McDonald missed 10 games as a result of the injury. "He seems almost refreshed," Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said. "I think this break has given him a chance to get his energy back, and he seems to have a real jump in his stride." It wouldn't be surprising to see McDonald finish the season on a high note.
