Sean Bergenheim doesn't regret his decision to skip the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, even though Finland ended up winning the bronze medal.
"I would have liked to play in the Olympics for sure. But there was no question in my mind what was the right thing to do," he said. "For me, at this point in my career, I had to make this choice and just focus on getting better." Multiple surgeries on his groin and abdomen kept him out of the lineup for the lockout-shortened season and he missed some of this year as well. Bergenheim was very proud of his countrymen for their performances at the tournament.

"For any athlete, having to say no to the Olympics is disappointing," Bergenheim said Saturday. "I had to make a decision with my best interests in mind. I really feel I need to the break. He missed all of last season and some of the 2013-14 campaign because of several procedures on his abdominal core.

Sean Bergenheim is expected to be named to Team Finland's Olympic roster following injuries to Mikko Koivu and Valtteri Filppula.
Bergenheim and KHL player Jarkko Immonen are listed as reserves on Finland's roster, but the Finns have not officially named them to the team yet. Since Bergenheim plays left wing and both Koivu and Filppula are centers, there is a possibility the Finns look for a center to fill the void. However, the only Finnish NHL center not already on the roster is Saku Koivu, who reportedly declined an invitation to participate in the games. Through 42 games with the Panthers, the 30 year-old Bergenheim has 13 goals and 19 points with a -13 rating.

Sean Bergenheim has been playing very well and Florida coach Peter Horachek has been impressed.
In his last four games Bergenheim has scored four goals and has played with determination and purpose around the opponent's net. "I really liked the way Bergenheim's been playing,'" Horachek said. "He's become one of my favorite players; kind of like a bull in a china shop. He kind of barrels in there and makes things happen all the time." Bergenheim is playing on a very effective line featuring talented rookie Aleksander Barkov and veteran Brad Boyes. You might want to consider picking him up if you need a boost on one of your wings.
