Ryan Malone won't travel with the Lightning to Washington for Sunday's regular season finale.

He was charged with DUI and possession of cocaine Saturday morning. He had 1.3 grams of cocaine in his right back pocket and a blood alcohol content of .112 and .116, according to the police. The NHL/NHLPA's Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health Program will determine his playing status following a mandatory evaluation.

Ryan Malone was arrested for cocaine possession and driving under the influence Saturday morning in Hillsborough County Florida.

Malone was pulled over after driving erratically and refused to take a sobriety test. He was then arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and during the arrest 1.3 grams of cocaine were found in the Tampa players' back pocket. The Lightning announced that Malone will not travel with the team for their final game in Washington. Malone has had a terrible season but this incident will have even more of an impact on his future in the NHL.

Ryan Malone picked up two assists in Wednesday's win against Toronto.

The points were his first since Jan. 19, but he's still looking for his first goal since Jan. 11. He has appeared in Tampa Bay's last three games after being a healthy scratch for four straight contests.

It will be his fifth consecutive game sitting in the press box. At least Malone is acknowledging that he has put himself in this situation. He told reporters that he has no excuses and has to play better. Bench Malone if you have not already done so.

Obviously, he isn't thrilled with the decision but he said he's just trying to stay read for his next opportunity. Malone has five goals and 12 points in 46 games this campaign. He doesn't have a point in his last 12 outings.

He has racked 18 minutes in the sin bin in his last five games. Malone scored on Saturday for the first time since Nov. 12. He has 11 points and 53 penalty minutes in 29 contests.

Malone missed a little over a month with a fractured ankle. He has three goals and nine points in 23 games in 2013-14.

Malone needs to improve his conditioning after missing over a month due to a fractured ankle. He is hoping to return to action sometime late next week while the Bolts are on a road trip.

Malone was expected to be sidelined for three-to-four weeks when he was injured on November 23 but he has yet to start skating. Coach Jon Cooper is hoping that he will return to the lineup when the Lightning head out to Western Canada for a four game swing on January 1. He has nine points and 35 penalty minutes in 23 games this season.
