MacArthur was the lone goal scorer in Monday's 1-0 victory over the Panthers in Sunrise.

MacArthur's first goal of the season was a second-period power-play marker that eventually held up as the game winner. It'll likely be a tall task for the ninth-year NHLer to surpass his career high in goals from last year (24), but with Jason Spezza gone and MacArthur locked into a top-line role with Bobby Ryan and Kyle Turris, there's no reason why he can't at least come close (health permitting). If, by chance, MacArthur is available on your wire, see if you can make space for him: he's looked good beside Ryan and Turris thus far and adds a bit of snarl in the PIM department also (78 last year).

MacArthur inked a five-year, $23.25 million extension with the Senators on Tuesday, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.

MacArthur was already under contract for $3.25 million for this season, so the new five year deal won't kick in until 2015-16, keeping him under team control through the end of the 2019-20 campaign. The 29-year-old scored a career-best 24 goals, 78 PIM and a plus-12 rating in his first season in Ottawa, and will be counted on to fill a top-line role long-term on the left wing.

Clarke MacArthur has been scrappy in his last couple of games.

He has picked up four minutes in the sin bin in each of his past two contests. "You've got to put your energy somewhere. You either go through a guy, or use it on the back check," MacArthur said. "Do something right. I mean we're searching for answers right now and we've got to find a way to change our look here." He also has two goals and two assists over his last five outings.

He has missed the Senators' last two games with a hand injury but practiced with his old linemates Kyle Turris and Bobby Ryan Friday and delcared himself ready to return. MacArthur has been one of the better Ottawa forwards this season so activate him without delay.

Clarke MacArthur won't require surgery after injuring a tendon in his hand during Wednesday's game against Calgary.

"It's more to do with pain threshold and ability to hang onto the stick," coach Paul MacLean said when talking about when MacArthur could return. "Those will be the factors that go into it." He might be able to play again next Saturday when the Senators play at Montreal.
