Joffrey Lupul LW TOR 1 Month

Lupul (knee) skated by himself prior to the Leafs' practice Monday, David Alter of the team's official site reports.Lupul's presence on the ice is a sign that he's moving in the right direction, but skating on his own means he's still got more hurdles to clear before returning to the lineup. Lupul did not take part in the team's practice when they showed up, which will likely be the next step towards his return.

Lupul aggravated a knee injury in Tuesday's loss to the Rangers and is expected to be out for about a week, Paul Hendrick of Leafs TV reports. It's just the latest item during Lupul's injury-plagued career, as he's been unable to suit up for more than 70 games in each of the last five non-lockout years. His latest setback is related to the knee injury he suffered Dec. 31 against the Bruins, which sidelined him for nearly the month. The Leafs are hopeful he can avoid an absence of that length this time around, but given Lupul's history, that can't be considered a given. With Lupul set to miss time, David Clarkson should reclaim a lineup spot after serving as a healthy scratch for the Leafs' last two contests.

Lupul picked up two assists in Tuesday's loss to Nashville. They are his first points since his Jan. 29 return from injury.

The guy has talent, so he might light a fire under the struggling Leafs. He may also be traded to a contender before the deadline and would almost certainly be put in an offensive role. As always, carry some insurance for those inevitable injuries.

Lupul (lower body) was activated from injured reserve Thursday.

The Leafs were labeling Lupul as a game-time decision for Thursday's game against the Coyotes, but his activation from IR and the subsequent demotion of Josh Leivo to AHL Toronto suggests the team fully intends to have Lupul available. Injuries have been his undoing throughout his career, but Lupul has been productive in the 26 games he's skated this season, netting nine goals and eight assists.

Lupul (lower body) will be a game-time decision for Thursday's game against the Coyotes, TSN's Mark Masters reports.

The Maple Leafs assigned fellow forward Josh Leivo to AHL Toronto on Thursday, which hints at Lupul taking the ice Thursday. He is available in some leagues and could be of some assistance with totals of 17 points and 14 PIM in 26 games this season.

Lupul (lower body) remains on injured reserve and will not return to action Wednesday against the Devils, Terry Koshan of the Toronto Sun reports.

Lupul has resumed on-ice activity over the last couple of days, but wasn't as advanced in his recovery from injury as Peter Holland (upper body) and Leo Komarov (shoulder), both of whom were cleared to return to action Wednesday. The winger would seem to have a feasible chance at playing Thursday against the Coyotes for the second game of a back-to-back set.

Lupul (lower body) is iffy for Wednesday's game against New Jersey, TSN's Jonas Siegel reports.

We'll revisit Lupul's status as Wednesday's game approaches, but the report suggests that based on Tuesday's practice, it does not appear as though the winger will be available on Wednesday.

Lupul (upper body) is expected to return for Wednesday's game in Philadelphia, The Toronto Star reports.

Lupul and Peter Holland have progressed at the same rate, after both players suffered upper body injuries on New Year's Eve. Lupul skated on his own last week, and he participated in full workouts at Monday's practice. Holland is also expected to return for Wednesday's game.

Lupul (lower body) skated on his own ahead of Tuesday's practice, TSN's Mark Masters reports.

Lupul didn't stick around with the team for the full session, so his return to action shouldn't be viewed as forthcoming. He's expected to rejoin the Leafs at some point after the All-Star break.

Lupul (lower body) will miss four weeks after being placed on the injured reserve earlier this week.

Look for the winger to return to the ice in late-January/early-February. He has already missed time this season with a broken hand so it is not the 2014-15 season that fantasy owners had hoped for on draft day.
