Joffrey Lupul LW TOR 1 Month

Lupul (hand) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Red Wings, Mark Masters of TSN reports.

As expected, the Maple Leafs want to give Lupul a few additional days to recover from the broken hand, so he'll set his sights on returning from IR in advance of Wednesday's tilt with the Penguins. Lupul will miss his 12th straight game with the injury.

Lupul (hand) practiced again Friday but isn't expected to make his return to action Saturday against the Red Wings, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.

Though Lupul was on the ice for the third straight day, he was still practicing in the maroon sweater worn by the team's other injured players. That would seem to indicate that Lupul isn't being viewed as a lineup option for the Detroit game, but with the Leafs off the schedule after that until next Wednesday, he should be ready to go by that time.

Lupul (hand) is nearing a return to game action, TSN's Jonas Siegel reports.

Lupul's return will not come Thursday, but he has practiced two straight days, so he will have a chance to play in Toronto's next game Saturday against the Red Wings.

Lupul (hand) was on the ice for Wednesday's practice, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.

The practice marked Lupul's first with the team since breaking his hand Oct. 31. Lupul will reach the end of his projected three-week recovery timetable Friday, but he may need to get in some additional practices after that time before making his return to games. The winger had three points in nine games prior to going down with the injury.

Lupul (hand) did not practice with the team Monday, Jonas Siegel of TSN 1050 reports.

Lupul was originally expected to return in the middle of this week, but it looks like his rehab process may have been delayed. The winger was off to a slow start before getting hurt, recording just two goals and an assist in nine games.

Coach Randy Carlyle said Lupul (hand) is about a week away from returning, Mark Masters of TSN reports.

Lupul was outfitted with a more flexible cast Monday and was able to get in another skating session before Tuesday's practice. It seems likely that he'll resume working out with the rest of the team in the next couple of days. His activation from injured reserve will ultimately be dictated on how his injured hand will respond to full-contact activity.

Lupul (hand) skated again before practice Tuesday, Mark Masters of TSN reports.

At this point, Lupul is believed to be at least one week away from returning to the lineup. Given the location of his injury, an increase in activity to incorporate stickhandling and shooting will give a clearer timetable for Lupul's return.

Lupul (hand) skated on his own Saturday, Mark Masters of TSN reports.

Lupul is still at least a couple weeks away from returning, and considering he didn't take any shots, this likely wasn't anything more than a conditioning skate. Keep an eye out for him to start stickhandling and shooting before returning to full contact at practice.

The Leafs placed Lupul (hand) on IR on Monday, James Mirtle of TSN reports.

The move to IR is a no brainer for the Leafs, as it opens up a roster spot while still allowing Lupul to return to the lineup in a few weeks when he's ready.

Lupul (hand) will miss the next three weeks, Jonas Siegel of TSN reports.

If Lupul does manage to return after three weeks, it will be pretty impressive considering broken hands usually cost players four-to-six weeks. He'll first require a cast for at least 10 days before being reevaluated by team doctors. Lupul was off to a slow start this season with just two goals and an assist through nine games, but he'll have to worry about his health now before trying to break out of his slump.
