Ville Leino LW BOS 12 Months

There's a "very good possibility" that Ville Leino will get bought out, according to Sabres GM Tim Murray.

It would be shocking if Murray actually decided to keep Leino after making a statement like that. Leino inked a six-year, $27 million contract that runs through 2016-17. He had a disastrous campaign where he recorded just 15 points in 58 contests.

Ville Leino scored the shootout winner in Tuesday's game against the New Jersey Devils.

He still has no regulation markers in 53 games this campaign, but he relished the opportunity to step up for his teammates and for the fans in attendance. "I miss a little bit of that feeling when you get that," Leino said. "Obviously, we haven't been in playoffs for a while or been winning that much, so it's tough. It's tough times, but those moments you get a little energy, extra effort to want to win it, put it in."

Ville Leino should be ready to play Tuesday against New Jersey after missing Saturday's game with what is believed to be an ocular migraine.

"It's something to do with your eyes and you started seeing lights and shapes, and your eyes have a delay," Leino explained. "It took me a couple days. I couldn't really focus much because your eyes are delayed, so you talk to someone and you don't realize you're talking to him because your eyes fall away. This is the first time I ever had it. It's a weird feeling, but I'm feeling better now." Just an FYI as Leino shouldn't be on your fantasy roster. He has no goals and 12 assists in 52 games this season.

Ville Leino's status for Saturday night's game against Tampa is still up in the air.

He left Thursday's game after just two shifts as he felt "lightheaded" and didn't practice Friday. Leino is still undergoing tests to determine why he felt the way he did. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Ville Leino will play on Tuesday after spending two games in the press box.

The season's almost over and Leino still hasn't scored a goal. It wouldn't be surprising if the Sabres use a compliance buyout on Leino over the summer. He comes with a $4.5 million cap hit through 2016-17.

He has scored a goal since March 30, 2013 and he's produced just 12 assists in 50 games this season. Interim coach Ted Nolan benched Leino for the third period in Tuesday's loss to Calgary. "He has to be better," Nolan said. "Going forward here, we have to make sure the people in the lineup are giving what they can give. If they don't give what they can give, we'll make changes."
