Kari Lehtonen let in three goals on 19 shots in Dallas' 3-2 loss to Anaheim Friday night.

It was a difficult game for Lehtonen as the Ducks scored some pretty goals. Lehtonen was outplayed by Frederik Andersen and the Stars lost their second straight to Anaheim. The Ducks and the Stars will play their next game on Monday in Dallas and Lehtonen will probably start again then.

Kari Lehtonen allowed four goals on 35 shots in Dallas' 4-3 loss to Anaheim Wednesday evening at Honda Center.

It wasn't a good start for Lehtonen as he allowed three goals in the first period. After the first period he played much better, but it was too late. Despite his shaky performance he should be the starting goalie on Friday, when the Stars and the Ducks will face again.

Goalie Kari Lehtonen is determined to push the Dallas Stars forward in the playoffs and is comfortable he can do so his way.

"I'm excited for this opportunity," Lehtonen 30, said of starting the playoffs Wednesday against the Anaheim Ducks. "We've been working for this, and now we want to get in there and see what we can do. It's a great time." Lehtonen added: "I have worked all year for this moment, and I think I'm ready." Lehtonen overcame a concussion and a groin strain to play in a league-high 65 games this season. He last was in the postseason in 2007 as a member of the Atlanta Thrashers. Just 23 at the time, he had helped the Thrashers make the playoffs for the first time by forging a 34-24-9 record.

Along with Jamie Benn, Kari Lehtonen and Trevor Daley also get Sunday off for the Dallas Stars against the Phoenix Coyotes.

The Stars probably hope that Tim Thomas won't make too many more appearances, as that would mean that Lehtonen either struggles or gets hurt. Thomas could be an excellent day-of pickup, even against what could very well be a bitter Coyotes team.

Kari Lehtonen helped the Stars clinch their first playoff berth since 2008 by shutting out the once mighty St. Louis Blues 3-0 on Friday night.

Lehtonen made 22 saves in the victory, which locked up the final playoff spot in the West and pits the Stars against the top seed in the conference come playoff time. Lehtonen has won three of his past four starts, and has compiled a 33-20-10 record this season with a .919 save percentage and 2.41 goals against average.

Lehtonen has allowed three goals or less in each of his past 10 games. The Finn improves to 32-20-10 this season with a .918 save percentage and 2.45 goals against average. Lehtonen has the Stars currently in the eighth and final playoff spot in the West. He has two games of playoff experience, both losses, with the Atlanta Thrashers in 2007.

This is a big game for Dallas after they lost to Florida on Sunday. The Stars have just a point lead on the Phoenix Coyotes in the fight for the final Wild Card spot.

Lehtonen allowed three goals on 16 shots before getting yanked 8:13 into the second period. Tim Thomas came in to relieve him, making 15 of 16 saves. Lehtonen has a 2.46 goals-against average and .918 save percentage. Dallas can ill afford more of these in their push for the postseason.

He has been in the crease of the Stars' past six games, where he has compiled a 5-1-0 record with a 1.67 goals-against average and a .950 save percentage. He has appeared in just two postseason games in his career and is keeping focused on getting back there this time around. Lehtonen is motivated and he's definitely worth riding with down the stretch.
