Kostka was recalled from AHL Hartford on Friday.

With Dan Boyle sidelined for the next four-to-six weeks with a broken hand, Kostka will restore some depth along the Rangers blue line. It seems unlikely that he'll break into the lineup, however, as Matt Hunwick looks to be first in line to replace Boyle.

The Rangers placed Kostka on waivers on Sunday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Kostka scored four goals and seven assists in 28 games played with the Blackhawks and Lightning last season. New York already had a solid core of defensemen so Kostka would have been low on the depth chart if he made the team. He will have a low fantasy impact if he does see time in the NHL this year.

The New York Rangers have signed defenseman Mike Kostka to a one-year contract.

No terms have been announced. Kostka is a depth defenseman who will see limited action with the Rangers unless there are significant injuries.

Mike Kostka (concussion) will be back in the lineup on Thursday.

He was temporarily knocked unconscious and suffered his first concussion after he was victimized by illegal check to the head from Montreal's Doug Murray on Apr. 1. "In talking to the trainers and stuff, they said it's weird that sometimes the ones that look the worst are sometimes the ones that turn out to be quick recoveries," Kostka said. "There's really no rhyme or reason why you recover at the speed that you do." He'll be paired with Victor Hedman against Philadelphia. Kostka has five points and a plus-3 rating in 16 games for Tampa Bay.

Mike Kostka (concussion) skated on Tuesday in a no-contact jersey.

"I'm feeling a little better every day and following the proper protocol to make sure we are not pushing it too hard," Kostka said. "I'm gradually picking things up so we don't have any setbacks on the road to recovery. I think I've been pretty fortunate." He suffered a concussion on Apr. 1 when he was hit by Montreal's Doug Murray.

Mike Kostka was nailed by an illegal check to the head in Tuesday's game against Montreal.

Canadiens blueliner Doug Murray appeared to hit Kostka with an elbow to the head on the play and he received a match penalty for the play. Murray will have a disciplinary hearing with the league on Thursday. A stretcher came onto the ice, but Kostka was able to get up and skate off on his own after he temporarily lost consciousnesses. It wouldn't be a stretch to say that he was concussed, but the Lightning haven't updated his status yet.

Mike Kostka scored a goal and registered an assist in Tampa Bay's 3-0 win on Saturday.

Kostka has stepped up since the Lightning claimed him off of waivers from the Chicago Blackhawks. He has two goals and five points in seven contests with Tampa Bay. We're not particularly excited about his recent offensive outburst as we don't expect it to last.

Mike Kostka played in back-to-back games with the Tampa Bay Lightning over the weekend after being claimed off waivers from Chicago.

He was credited with five blocked shots and logged 8:42 of ice time in Saturday's win over Dallas and he produced two assists during 12:11 of action versus Colorado on Sunday. "It felt good to get back into it," said Kostka, who hadn't played since Jan. 26. "I was looking back to the last time I played and didn't realize that it had been about a month and half ago, so it was nice to get back out there and shake the rust off." He played under Lightning coach Jon Cooper while in AHL Norfolk, so the move to Tampa Bay could be very beneficial to him.
