The Los Angeles Kings' offense really exploded in the 2014 playoffs, as the Stanley Cup champions generated a postseason-best 3.38 goal-per-game average.

Compare that to their 2.42 gpg average, which ranked 26th in the NHL. Only Detroit averaged less than two goals per playoff contest, as the Boston Bruins limited them to six tallies in five contests. The Anaheim Ducks led the regular season with 3.21 goals per contest.

The great Wayne Gretzky said that Anze Kopitar is the third best player in the world.

Gretzky rated Kopitar behind only Sidney Crosby and Jonathan Toews, and that is quite heady territory for the Slovenian star. Kopitar led the playoffs in scoring with 26 and has been terrific for the Kings since they drafted him 11th overall in the 2005 draft, the same draft in which Crosby went first overall. Kopitar is a stud and deserves to be selected in the second or third round in traditional hockey pools.

Anze Kopitar felt the Kings had a strong performance in Game 4 despite the result.

"I mean we can obviously still play better and we'll have to play better tonight to close it out," Kopitar added. "I think there were some positives, yes, but there was also some stuff we can improve on and we're going to look to do that tonight." The big thing for the Kings will be getting off to a strong start, given that the Rangers have now taken a 2-0 lead in three of four contests. Obviously, the Kings rallied back twice and still have a commanding 3-1 series lead, but the Rangers are feeling good about finally winning a contest and the Kings want to stop their run before it becomes problematic for them.

Anze Kopitar has the second most points of any Kings player in any single playoff run.

Kopitar recorded his 21st assist and 26th point of the 2014 postseason on Monday. He moved past Tomas Sandstrom's mark of 25 points, but he has no realistic hope of catching up to Wayne Gretzky's 1993 mark of 40 points.

Anze Kopitar has not scored a goal in his last nine games.

The NHL's leading point getter in the playoffs with five goals and 25 points, has only six assists in his last nine games as well. For most NHLers, this would be a nice streak, but for the talented Kopitar, it is a slump.

Kings star Anze Kopitar figures the Rangers will come back strong when the Stanley Cup Final series shifts to New York on Monday.

''Their building is going to be loud," Kopitar said. "I'm sure they're going to be very desperate. They're going to throw everything at us that they've got and we're going to have to match all of the above." The Kings lead the series 2-0, having won both of the first two games in Los Angeles in overtime. Forty-eight teams have taken a 2-0 series lead since the Stanley Cup Final went to a best-of-seven format in 1939. Of those teams, 43 (89.9 per cent) won the Cup, including the 2012 Kings. Home teams sweeping Games 1 and 2 of the Cup Final have gone 32-3 (.914 per cent). But two of the exceptions were recent, with Pittsburgh (2009 against Detroit) and Boston (2011 against Vancouver) rallying to win the Cup.

Kings center Anze Kopitar is leading NHL playoff scorers with 24 points in 22 games and has been instrumental in the run that has brought the Kings to a 1-0 lead over the New York Rangers in the Stanley Cup Final, but he hasn't scored a goal in eight games and his points lead over teammate Jeff Carter has shrunk to one.

Kopitar's first coach isn't pleased. "Now he's a little quiet so he needs to step up," the coach said. "If he wants to keep this position you need to produce and score goals. He knows that. I don't need to tell him." The coach is Kopitar's father, Matjaz, who coached Anze and Team Slovenia to their first-ever Olympic hockey victories earlier this year at the Sochi Games.

Anze Kopitar raised his NHL leading points total to 24 with an assist on Sunday.

Kopitar assisted on the game tying third period goal by Marian Gaborik and is two points ahead of teammate Jeff Carter in scoring. Kopitar is now third all-time on the Kings in points during one playoff season as he trails only Wayne Gretzky (40 in 1993) and Tomas Sandstrom who had 25 in the same year.

Anze Kopitar downplayed the pressure on the Kings as they get ready for Game 7 of the Western Conference Final.

"We really have nothing to lose," Kopitar said. "We're going to go out, we're going to play hard, throw everything on the line. At the end of the day we think, and we're confident enough, that if we do that, if we do play our game, we think we have a very good chance of winning." Kopitar is one of the main reasons the Kings have gotten this far. He has five goals and a league-leading 23 points in 20 playoff games.

Anze Kopitar is having one of the best postseasons in Los Angeles Kings' history.

With 23 points in 19 games, only two Kings players have ever recorded more playoff points in a single year than Kopitar. They are Tomas Sandstrom, who had 25 points in 1993, and, naturally, Wayne Gretzky. During the Kings 1993 postseason run, Gretzky had 15 goals and 40 points in 24 games.
