The Anaheim Ducks benefited Friday from the return of veteran center Saku Koivu, who had two assists in his team's 5-2 victory over the Calgary Flames.
Koivu had sat out 15 games since suffering a concussion in Columbus on Oct. 27. "I felt physically pretty good," Koivu said. "You can only get into contact so much in practice. I felt fine. We have a second tough game [Saturday] so hopefully things remain well."

Saku Koivu (head) is still experiencing some dizziness during his on-ice sessions.
It has been speculated for a while that he had a concussion and he admitted Thursday that this is the first such injury he's had. Koivu hasn't played since Oct. 27 and he won't be cleared until he can rid himself of those symptoms.

Saku Koivu (head) appears ready to return to the Anaheim Ducks' lineup.
The veteran center has been sidelined for 10 games because of suspected concussionlike symptoms after being knocked unconscious briefly during an Oct. 27 game at Columbus, but he participated in the Ducks' high-paced practice on Sunday and may be back for their next game.

Saku Koivu has apparently suffered a setback from his head injury.
Koivu suffered the injury when he was knocked unconscious on October 27 on a hit from the Blue Jackets Brandon Dubinsky. The Orange County Register reported that coach Bruce Boudreau said to 'go ask the trainer' when questioned as to if Koivu had a relapse. "He's just going through a lot of different little tests right now," Boudreau said. "He felt great today. He said he's going to turn it up a little bit and we'll see how it goes tomorrow." It does not sound as if Koivu is close to returning to action so keep him reserved.

Saku Koivu was injured in the second period Sunday and did not return.
Brandon Dubinsky hit Koivu's jaw with his shoulder and the incident left Koivu out cold for an instant. These are the types of hits that the NHL is trying to eliminate from the game and Dubinsky will likely find himself talking to Brendan Shanahan on Monday so do not be surprised if there is a suspension involved. Koivu seemed to be fine after the game according to coach Bruce Boudreau but will still undergo the baseline tests for a concussion. Stay tuned.

Saku Koivu will play in Montreal for the second time since he was permitted to leave the team for Anaheim as a free agent after the 2008-09 season.
He has played for the Ducks since them and this could be his last visit depending on what happens at the end of the year. Koivu can become an unrestricted free agent at the conclusion of the 2013-14 campaign. "In a way, it's a little easier to come back the second time," the 38-year-old said. "It's a little less hectic this time than the time before and that's kind of the way I want to do it." Koivu has two goals and one assist in nine games this year.
