Although Miikka Kiprusoff made the initial decision to retire as the 2013 campaign ended, he is grateful that the Flames allowed him to hold off the announcement until Monday. Kiprusoff used the summer to make sure he was 100% sure before deciding to make his retirement official. "I've been very lucky to have spent 10 years of my career in Calgary," Kiprusoff said. "There is no better place to live and play. I look forward to taking the next year with my family to enjoy everything wonderful about southern Alberta." Kiprusoff struggled last season, but people will remember the years of success that preceded it. He retired with 319 wins, a 2.49 GAA, and .912 save percentage in 623 career games.

The Calgary Flames have officially announced the retirement of goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff. It was widely speculated that the 36-year-old goaltender had played in his final season last year and it was made official with training camps getting ready to open this week. Kiprusoff didn't enjoy a very good sendoff to his NHL career, as he struggled during the lockout-shortened season, but he provided the Flames with plenty of spectacular play before that. After nine seasons in Calgary, he finishes as the franchise's all-time leader in wins (305,) games played (576,) and shutouts (41).

Although Miikka Kiprusoff is expected to retire, nothing has been made official yet. "We've had conversations," said Flames GM Jay Feaster. "We'll have a resolution before the start of (main) camp. But it's not something we're prepared to discuss in one way or another right now." Assuming Kiprusoff retires, Karri Ramo and Joey MacDonald are expected to battle for the starting gig in 2013-14.

Calgary Flames GM Jay Feaster said the team will "continue our dialogue" with goalie Miikka Kiprusoff in light of Tuesday's report he will retire. Feaster also said the report out of Finland on Tuesday morning stating Kiprusoff had told the Finnish national team he was retiring isn't out of line with what they've heard from the netminder. However, it does sound like the Flames, rightly or not, aren't closing the door on the veteran netminder just yet. Kiprusoff has one year and $1.5 million left on his NHL contract.

Miikka Kiprusoff told the Finnish national team he is retiring from hockey, according to Finnish media member Juha Hiitela. This isn't exactly surprising news considering Kiprusoff admitted he was considering retirement during the 2013 season, but Sportsnet's John Shannon says the netminder has yet to inform the Flames of his decision. Kiprusoff has one year and $1.5 million left on his NHL contract but struggled mightily this season. If this is it for the 36-year old, he finished with a record of 319-213-7-64, a GAA of 2.49 and a .912 career save percentage in 606 career starts.

Miikka Kiprusoff is thought to be leaning toward retirement. Calgary GM Jay Feaster got that impression after the two spoke last week. Kiprusoff admitted that he was considering retirement during the 2013 campaign. He missed 13 games with a knee injury and didn't post very good numbers in the lockout-shortened season, so it might be a good time to call it a career.

There has been no indication from Miikka Kiprusoff that he will retire this offseason. The 36-year-old has a year left at $1.5 million on his contract, and many expect him to hang up his skates this summer. But Flames general manager has yet to receive word from the netminder. "I talked with him just this week," said Feaster. "and we made sure he knows that we will wait for him to be sure about what he wants to do."

Curtis Glencross thinks that Miikka Kiprusoff will retire. "He's kind of said that he's pretty much done, I think," Glencross said. "Unless something changes over the summer here or the next couple of weeks, just talking to him, I don't think he'll be back." Other teammates such as Lee Stempniak and Joey MacDonald aren't as sure, but it may be that we have seen the last of Miikka Kiprusoff in the Calgary cage.

Miikka Kiprusoff is expected to start in goal Tuesday night. The Kiprusoff farewell tour continues as the Finnish netminder plays out what he says will be his final NHL season. Perhaps spurred by his retirement plans, Kipper has been excellent in his last two starts, allowing three total goals and winning both contests.
