Kane (knee) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.

With Kane probably at least three weeks away from returning to game action, the Jets didn't want to get by with only 22 players until he was deemed ready to go. Look for the team to call up a forward from AHL St. John's prior to their next game, scheduled for Friday against the Predators.

Coach Paul Maurice said Saturday that Kane (knee) would be reevaluated after two weeks, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.

The Jets were bracing for the worst after Kane took the brunt of a nasty collision with linemate Mark Scheifele in Thursday's opener, but Maurice sounded relieved by the prognosis. Even if he's cleared to resume skating in two weeks, Kane will probably need to get at least a couple of practices in before he returns to the lineup, so in total, it could be three weeks before he appears in a game, at minimum. The Jets will move Dustin Byfuglien from the third-line right wing spot to Kane's left-wing spot on the second line in the interim.

Coach Paul Maurice said he wouldn't consider Kane (knee) as day-to-day at this point, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.

While the extent of Kane's injury remains unknown at this point, the fact that coach Paul Maurice state he "wouldn't list him as day-to-day" is a pretty good indication he may miss a significant amount of time due to the injury. Matt Halischuk is expected to enter the lineup in his place.

Kane suffered an apparent knee injury in Thursday's opener and there is concern over the severity, Bob McKenzie of TSN reports.

Although the team hasn't released an update on Kane's official injury or severity, the indication seems to be that it might not be minor. He will likely undergo testing of some sort in the near future, and the team should provide an update on the issue.

Kane suffered a lower body injury in Thursday's game and will not return.

It's a tough start for Kane, who briefly returned to the ice before heading to the dressing room for good. The young winger should be considered day-to-day for now until the team releases more details on the nature of his injury.

Kane recorded a goal and an assist, to go with a plus-2 rating in Saturday's preseason win over Calgary.

The Jets' top line of Kane, Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler combined for four points on Saturday, helping the team finish the preseason with a 3-4-0 record. Kane, who produced a somewhat disappointing 19 goals and 41 points in 2013-14, has a prime opportunity to boost his offensive totals in 2014-15. His linemate Scheifele is on the rise and Kane is sure to get plenty of ice time on the top line and top power-play unit. The potential is there for Kane to break through and hit 60 points in 2014-15.

Though he was generally expected to play in Monday's exhibition against the Oilers, Kane ended up sitting out the contest.

It's not believed that Kane is dealing with any sort of injury, so perhaps the Jets just decided the winger could use a little more rest in advance of the regular season. He'll likely return to preseason action at some point this week, which should allow the coaching staff to determine where he fits best. He's expected to receive an audition with Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler on the top line, a combination that could help Kane unlock the 60-point potential that exists within him.

Winnipeg Jets fans looking for some clarity on Evander Kane's apparent desire for a change of scenery aren't getting it from the club's general manager.

Kevin Cheveldayoff, speaking at the end of the Jets development camp, continued to evade questions about whether or not Kane has asked for a trade. "I'm open to look, to see if there's ways to make improvements on this team," Cheveldayoff said. "Without singling out any individual, everyone starts to wonder what's going on." Asked again directly if Kane has asked to be moved, Cheveldayoff wouldn't confirm or deny it. "I have lots of conversations with lots of players all the time... lots of things are said or not said, and those stay in-house," he said. Kane this summer has fueled the speculation he'd rather play elsewhere. The other day, he was on a Vancouver radio station saying he's still a Jet "for now." During the NHL draft, he favourited a tweet about the Philadelphia Flyers acquiring him.

The Jets reportedly want a young top four defenseman or a top six forward for Evander Kane.

That might make trading Kane a challenge for GM Kevin Cheveldayoff. The Jets are certainly shopping the inconsistent Kane, but in the end, he may end up staying in Winnipeg.

The Winnipeg Jets are reportedly considering trading forward Evander Kane and the Edmonton Oilers could be one of the teams most interested in acquiring his services.

It's been speculated in the Edmonton media that the club could be trying to work out a deal for the maligned power forward, however the piece in question suggests the Oilers could offer Nail Yakupov for Kane, which sounds like a terrible deal for Winnipeg.
