Howard (groin) is expected to practice Monday, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.

General manager Ken Holland previously said that the Red Wings didn't expect to have Howard back in the crease until the first week of February, so it seems likely that he'll require several practices before his activation would be considered. The Red Wings haven't seen much of a performance dip under the stewardship of Petr Mrazek, allowing the team to wait until Howard is 100 percent healthy before he's given the go-ahead to return.

Howard (groin) is targeting a return to action at some point between Jan. 31 and Feb. 7, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.

GM Ken Holland admitted that the expected return date for the goalie is only a rough estimate, as it's often difficult to pinpoint an exact recovery timetable for groin injuries. Since suffering the slight tear, Howard has maintained conditioning by working out off the ice, but a return shouldn't be considered forthcoming until he starts skating again.

The ultrasound Howard received Monday confirmed the goalie had a slight groin tear, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Fortunately, it doesn't appear Howard will require surgery, but the injury will nonetheless keep the goalie out until after the All-Star break. His official timetable for a recovery is two-to-four weeks, with how he progresses over the next week likely dictating if he hits the short or long end of that frame.

Howard will miss 2-to-4 weeks with the groin injury he suffered in Saturday's game, Chuck Pleiness of the Macomb Daily reports.

Howard will miss an extended period of action with the groin injury, but the upcoming NHL All-Star break will give him nearly a week to recover without missing any games. Petr Mrazek will be the Red Wings' primary goaltender until Howard is ready to return to the ice.

Howard's MRI on his groin only revealed a slight tear, but he'll have an ultrasound Monday to confirm that original diagnoses, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports. Unless the ultrasound proves otherwise, Howard is expected to be out until at least the All-Star break.

As it stands, the rough timetable for Howard's return will be for the Jan. 27 game against the Panthers. The newly-recalled Tom McCollum will fill in for Howard in the meantime as he rehabs his way back onto the ice.

Howard (groin) was placed on injured reserve by the Red Wings on Sunday.

Howard was forced out of Saturday's game on a stretcher due to the injury, and will now head to injured reserve for the second time in less than a month because of the groin issue. The Red Wings recalled Tom McCollum from AHL Grand Rapids to take his place on the roster.

Howard (groin) will undergo an MRI on Sunday to assess the extent of his injury, according to a report on CBC's Hockey Night in Canada. He could be out for a long period of time.

The injury happened when he tried to recover after misplaying the puck behind the net. He dove out front and tried to make a save, kicking his left leg out in an awkward split position. He immediately fell forward and barely moved from his belly until a stretcher arrived; he even kept his mask on as he was wheeled off. This looks like it could be a long absence for Howard, who had just returned the IR (groin) on Dec. 27. Reserve him immediately. And pray.

Howard was taken off the ice on a stretcher after suffering a groin injury during the first period of Saturday's game against the Capitals, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Howard, who missed time at the end December with a groin injury, went down just minutes into the game and was unable to leave the ice under his own power. The Red Wings announced that Howard was being tended to by doctors in the visitors' locker room at the Verizon Center. If Howard were to miss additional time, top backup Petr Mrazek and Jonas Gustavsson would be left to handle netminding duties for Detroit.

Howard will receive the start in goal Saturday against the Capitals, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.

After receiving a rest in the Wings' last game Wednesday in favor of Petr Mrazek, Howard will return to the crease in search of his 17th win of the season. Howard has been on point since the start of December, surrendering two or fewer goals in all but one of his last 10 starts.

Howard turned aside 21 of 23 shots and benefited from some late offense in Tuesday's 4-2 win over Edmonton.

This one looked like it was headed to overtime until Pavel Datsyuk untied it on the power play with 34 seconds to go. So it didn't come as easy as you'd like to see against the lowly Oil, but it's still Howard's 10th start in the last 11 in which he's allowed two or fewer goals. Sharp. He'll take a seat Wednesday, though, as Petr Mrazek will start against Calgary in the second of a back-to-back set.
