Jimmy Howard G DET 13 Hrs

Wings' general manager Ken Holland indicated that Howard is day-to-day with a groin issue and hasn't been ruled out for Tuesday's game against the Sabres, Chuck Pleiness of Macomb Daily reports.

Howard will not play Sunday, with Pete Mrazek receiving the start in net. Monday's practice could reveal more about his availability for Tuesday's contest against the Sabres. However, the Wings don't play again until Saturday so it's possible the team gives him the extra rest over the holiday break.

Howard (lower body) is being evaluated by team doctors Saturday, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.

The Red Wings have already ruled Howard out from being available for Sunday's tilt with the Avalanche, but GM Ken Holland said that he was still hopeful the goalie would be ready to go for Tuesday's game against the Sabres. Though the injury is not considered serious, it might be tough to count on Howard to be ready to go by that time unless he's able to practice Monday.

Howard (lower body) will be unavailable for Sunday's game against the Avalanche, Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News reports.

Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said the team is optimistic that Howard won't be on the shelf for long after suffering a lower-body injury Friday night, but he'll have to sit for at least one game. The Red Wings recalled Thomas McCollum to assume backup duties in the interim, while Petr Mrazek likely makes the start in place of Howard on Sunday against the Avalanche.

Red Wings GM Ken Holland said after Friday's game that Howard (lower body) is day-to-day, Chuck Pleiness of the Macomb Daily reports.

Tom McCollum was recalled after Howard left Friday's game with the injury, but it doesn't sound like Howard is in danger of missing significant time. Petr Mrazek, who stopped 22-of-23 shots in relief of Howard on Friday, would presumably get the start Sunday against Colorado is Howard doesn't receive clearance to play.

Howard left Friday's game with a lower-body injury and will not return, Craig Custance of ESPN The Magazine reports.

The Red Wings announced that Howard's removal was precautionary, so it would appear they don't believe his setback is serious. Consider Howard questionable for the Red Wings' next game Sunday.

Howard was removed from Friday's game after the first period, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.

The reason for Howard's removal was not provided, but Petr Mrazek began the second period in the Red Wings' net, and Howard was not even on the bench. Expect an update on Howard's status as more details become available.

Howard will be in the net Friday against the Islanders, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.

Howard has been the victim of some terrible luck of late, as he's dropped three consecutive games in shootouts. His most recent loss on Tuesday was doubly frustrating in that he shut out the Blue Jackets for 65 minutes, only to watch opposing goalie Sergei Bobrovsky blank his mates. Even if he's not getting the wins he probably deserves, Howard is at least playing extremely well right now, which should give his fantasy owners plenty of confidence in using him Friday.

Howard stopped all 29 shots he faced through regulation and overtime Tuesday against Columbus, but was beaten twice in the shootout to end up with a loss.

That's the third consecutive shootout loss for Howard, who's only given up three regulation goals in that span. Howard has more overtime losses (seven) than regulation losses (five), so just imagine how good the Wings' record would be if they played better after 60 minutes.

Howard will be back in the crease Tuesday against the Blue Jackets, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.

After suffering shootout losses in each of his last two turns, Howard was rested for the second game of the Red Wings' back-to-back over the weekend in favor of backup Petr Mrazek. Despite the inability to come away with victories of late, Howard's play hasn't seemed to deteriorate in December. He owns a 2.15 GAA and .915 save percentage in his five starts this month.

Howard turned aside 24 of 26 pucks Friday against the Panthers, but took a shootout loss after allowing goals to both shooters.

Howard has been snakebitten in the breakaway contest this year, going 0-5. The good news is, he's more than made up for the bad luck in the shootout with a lovely 13-5-6 record, 2.14 GAA and .918 save percentage. With the Wings ripping up the Atlantic Division with 41 points and a share of the top spot with Tampa Bay, Howard figures to be an excellent source of wins for fantasy owners going forward.
