Marian Hossa RW CHI 5 Months

While the recognition he does get usually is for his offensive contributions - he reached the 30-goal plateau for the eighth time in his career - it's Marian Hossa's work without the puck that makes him such an elite player, even at 35.

Hossa led the league in takeaways for much of the season, but missing 10 games with injuries and family matters dropped him to fifth overall. But in 72 games, he had 75 takeaways - the highest average per game among league leaders. There's no question Hossa is one of the best - if not the best - two-way players in the world. But he won't likely win the Frank J. Selke Trophy, awarded annually to the league's top defensive forward, because it traditionally goes to a center. Hossa is a right winger. The likely Selke winner this year will be Boston's Patrice Bergeron. "It seems like only the centers get mentioned a lot," Chicago coach Joel Quenneville said. "But Hossa, two-way, is as good as any player in the league. Start getting him in that category. You have my support."

Marian Hossa scored his 30th goal of the season on Saturday.

Hossa netted the goal midway through the first period and only logged 4:30 minutes as a result. "I said, 'Well, if you do score early I'm going to pull you,'" Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville explained. "And that's what happened." It was the Blackhawks' last game of the season and their playoff position had already been decided, so making sure none of their top players got injured was their main concern.

Marian Hossa potted the game-tying goal with 47.7 seconds remaining in the third period in Wednesday's overtime win over Montreal.

He is one goal away from 30 on the season with two games left to play. Hossa also assisted on Patrick Sharp's winning tally in the extra session to give him 59 points in 70 games.

Despite skipping Sunday's morning skate, it appears that Marian Hossa is good to go for the Chicago Blackhawks' match against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Teuvo Teravainen is also in action for Chicago today. Hossa has two goals in his last three games and seems suited to help fantasy owners who may very well depend on a few shots and goals here and there to win weekly playoff series (if applicable).

The Chicago Blackhawks will get Marian Hossa back on Sunday as they host the Detroit Red Wings.

No doubt about it, you should adjust your lineup(s) accordingly, as the two-way winger remains effective with 50 points in 57 games played and nice peripherals this season.

Marian Hossa might be ready to return from his upper-body injury this weekend.

If he doesn't return by then, next week could be a very good possibility. "Hoss is doing much better," coach Joel Quenneville said. "I think he's going to get on the ice [Wednesday] while we're gone. It's going to be on his own here. We'll get a better idea when we get him together with our team, but I don't think he's too far away." He won't play Wednesday night and that will mark his fourth straight absence from the Blackhawks' lineup.
