Hodgson will transition to a full-time role at left wing with the Sabres this season, Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News reports.

Hodgson moved from center to wing late last season with the Sabres, but it wasn't until he thrived at the position for Team Canada in this summer's World Championships that the organization decided to make the role a permanent one. The 24-year-old was used alongside Chris Stewart and Mikhail Grigorenko during Sunday's preseason tilt, recording a team-high seven shots while assisting on a goal. Now that it seems he's found his niche for the Sabres, it wouldn't be surprising if Hodgson improved upon last season's outputs of 20 goals and 44 points.

Cody Hodgson continues to be Team Canada's top performer at the IIHF World Hockey Champioinships in Belarus.

He leads the Canadians in scoring with six goals and seven points in five games, good for fourth overall in tournament scoring. Hodgson has shifted from center to wing and is flanking Nazem Kadri with Troy Brouwer on the other side. The Sabres should take note. Perhaps Hodgson would be more productive next season if he did not have the responsibilities of playing as a pivot.

Cody Hodgson was productive as a left winger down the stretch for Buffalo.

He recorded four goals and four assists in the Sabres' last nine games after he was moved to the wing to utilize Zemgus Girgensons' skills in the middle. "I like it. Teddy asked me if I felt comfortable there, and I do," Hodgson said. "I do feel comfortable, especially with Zemgus. He's got a lot of speed and opens up so much room." If Buffalo has too many wingers on their roster next season then Hodgson could end up being put back at center next season, but his versatility to play either position will probably come up at points during the year. "Wherever he wants to put me, I'll play."

Cody Hodgson will return to center on Thursday after spending some time on the wing of late.

"Cody is one of those guys who is very good when you have people to get him the puck," said coach Ted Nolan. "Maybe he learned from a different position how he can spring a winger better, how he can cover more." He is slated to play between Cory Conacher and Torrey Mitchell. Hodgson has been ice cold for a while with just two goals and six points in his last 17 appearances.
