Jan Hejda D COL 16 Days

Hejda accumulated an assist, two PIM, two hits and four blocked shots in his 21:46 of ice time Thursday versus the Senators.

Don't expect much scoring in the future for Hejda, who has never totaled more than 21 points in a season and has just six in 41 games so far in 2014-15. He'll bring his most utility in the form of hits and blocks, as he ranks second on the Avs in both categories.

Hejda was credited with an assist in his 22:18 of ice time in Thursday's win over the Jets.

Hejda holds down a top-pairing role for the Avs, but he's valued mostly for what he contributes in the hits and blocked shots categories than for any puck-moving. The assist marked just his fifth point in 29 games on the season.

Jan Hejda played in Colorado's opening round series against Minnesota with two broken fingers and a pin in his thumb.

He didn't have a point and posted a minus-6 rating in seven contests, as the Avalanche were bounced from the postseason in the first round. Hejda has one year remaining on his current contract.

Jan Hejda, who had such a great first half of the 2013-14 season, is not a sure bet to return to Denver for the 2014-15 campaign.

He slumped badly in the second half and the Avs have a number of young defensemen who are chomping at the bit to make the team next season, including Stefan Elliott, Duncan Siemens and Chris Bigras.

Jan Hejda suffered an upper-body injury in Sunday's regular season finale.

He was hurt in the second period and didn't return after logging 14:47 of ice time. Coach Patrick Roy wasn't sure about the defenseman's status following the contest, so his availability for Game 1 of the playoffs against Minnesota should be considered questionable at this time.

Jan Hejda will be back in the Colorado lineup against Minnesota Saturday night.

He has missed the last week or so with a sprained knee. Hejda has arguably been the Avs' best defenseman this season. Feel free to start him Saturday if you need a d-man.

Although he was wearing a non-contact jersey, Jan Hejda (knee) joined his teammates for Wednesday's practice.

Hejda felt better than he had anticipated. The hope is that he'll be able to return on Saturday.

Depending on how he feels, there's a chance that Jan Hejda could return from his knee injury by this weekend.

He might be able to resume skating this week, which could lead to an early return from an injury that looked much worse when it happened. Hejda has missed two games after he was hurt last Thursday against Edmonton.
