Johan Hedberg agreed to a professional tryout agreement with the AHL's Albany Devils on Thursday. Keith Kinkaid is out with a groin injury, so Hedberg has agreed to help out. "Kinkaid is hurt and they needed another goalie and I was around and available, so here I am," Hedberg said. He skated with the team is slated to play in one of the club's upcoming three matches. Albany plays Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Hedberg was bought out by New Jersey last summer.

Johan Hedberg has started to serve as an unofficial scout with the New Jersey Devils. Hedberg was signed to play in 2013-14, but the final season on his contract was bought out after the Devils acquired Cory Schneider. Hedberg attempted to extend his career by participating in the Rangers' training camp, but he wasn't successful. He might formally rejoin the Devils organization in some non-playing capacity down the road.

The New York Rangers have reportedly not contacted Johan Hedberg after waiving Martin Biron. Hedberg competed with Biron for the backup job during training camp, but Hedberg, who was on a tryout contract, was ultimately released. Although Biron is likely to clear waivers and get demoted, it's doubtful that Hedberg will be the one to take his place.

Johan Hedberg has been released from his professional tryout offer. Hedberg had been brought in to compete for the backup job against Martin Biron, but it looks like Biron cemented his place with a strong showing in Tuesday's preseason games. It's not clear what Hedberg's next move will be, but this might be the end of his playing career. Before Hedberg accepted a tryout with the Rangers, the New Jersey Devils offered to keep him on board in a non-playing role and it wouldn't be surprising to see him follow through on.

Johan Hedberg, who accepted a tryout with the Rangers, isn't aware of why Martin Biron missed the opening of training camp for personal reasons. Biron isn't expected to miss much time due to this, but either way, this is a chance for Hedberg to extend his playing career. The final season of Hedberg's contract was bought out by the New Jersey Devils after they acquired Cory Schneider. "Hopefully, something will happen here and if that wouldn't be the case, then we'll reevaluate and see," Hedberg said. "But at least I know that I'm going to have a really good training camp. I'm here with a very open mind to try to make the most of the opportunity and then we'll see what happens."

Johan Hedberg has accepted a professional tryout offer from the New York Rangers. There's an outside chance that Hedberg will be able to wrestle the backup job away from Martin Biron. More likely though, the Rangers will only offer Hedberg a contract if one of their goaltenders gets injured or if he's willing to start the season in the AHL.

The New Jersey Devils are interested in bringing Johan Hedberg for a non-playing role. The Devils bought out the final year of Hedberg's contract over the summer after acquiring Cory Schneider. At the age of 40, Hedberg has been reluctant to sign elsewhere because of what it would mean to his family, so he might decide it's time for him to hang up his skates. "We've been talking about different things," Hedberg said. "Nothing is concrete. I'm still going to hang around the team. Not playing. It's a great organization." He has a 2.82 GAA and .901 save percentage in 373 career NHL games.

Johan Hedberg is waiting to see if an opportunity to play in the NHL next season presents itself. The Devils brought out Hedberg after acquiring Cory Schneider. Hedberg might have a tough time landing a one-way contract at this stage of his career, but he'll probably be able to find a team willing to give him a chance to earn the number two gig on their team out of training camp.

Johan Hedberg has been placed on unconditional waivers and he'll be bought out by the New Jersey Devils. The deadline for compliance buyouts closes at 5 p.m. Thursday and the Devils weren't able to find a trading partner for the veteran backup. Hedberg became the odd man out when New Jersey acquired Cory Schneider from Vancouver at the draft.

Johan Hedberg admitted that the New Jersey Devils' decision to acquire Cory Schneider shocked him. Hedberg, who is signed through the 2012-13 campaign, is talking with the Devils to determine what his future holds. When asked about the possibility of starting the season with AHL Albany, Hedberg said, "That is not my preference."
