Hartnell finished the preseason with no goals and two assists in five games played.

The 32-year-old winger had a down year with the Flyers last season and is looking for a fresh start after being traded to the Blue Jackets during the offseason. Hartnell fits well into Columbus' system and could see his offensive production increase if he is paired with Ryan Johansen and Cam Atkinson this season.

Scott Hartnell is looking forward to playing for the Columbus Blue Jackets.

"Playing against the Blue Jackets last year, they were frustrating and hard to play against," Hartnell said. "You look at the age of all of these guys that are 19, 20, 21 years old, it's fair to say that they're going to be a good team for the next five to six years. That's something that I made clear before saying yes to the trade was that I want to win." Columbus has certainly come a long way in the last few years. When they acquired Jeff Carter from Philadelphia in the summer of 2011, the reception response was far colder. Hartnell had 52 points and 103 penalty minutes in 78 contests in 2013-14 and should put up similar numbers next season.

Columbus GM Jarmo Kekalaine is thrilled to have Scott Hartnell in the fold.

"I'm excited," Kekalainen said. "We had a player who didn't want to be here anymore, and we were able to trade him for a player who makes us better in a lot of different ways, a guy who fits the very definition of how we think this club should play." The Blue Jackets landed Hartnell for a 2015 fourth-round pick and R.J. Umberger. He will likely line up alongside Brandon Dubinsky or Ryan Johansen next season.

Scott Hartnell waived his no-trade clause after he was told by Flyers GM Ron Hextall that he was done in Philadelphia.

It sounds like Hartnell's not leaving on the best of terms. Philadelphia dealt him to Columbus on Monday in exchange for R.J. Umberger and a 2014 fourth-round pick. Hartnell was just one season into the six-year, $28.5 million contract he signed with the Flyers. For what it's worth, Hartnell added that he loved his time in Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Flyers have traded Scott Hartnell to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for a 2015 fourth-round pick and R.J. Umberger.

Hartnell is a fantastic player from a fantasy perspective. He is typically good for around 20 goals and 50 points while giving you 100-150 penalty minutes. He had a rough campaign in 2013 due in part to a broken foot, but for a physical forward, he's actually stayed remarkably healthy. We don't think the move to Columbus will significantly impact his fantasy value, given that the Blue Jackets are now a fairly competitive now.
