Ron Hainsey was credited with an unusual goal on Thursday.

Ron Hainsey scored his first NHL goal since March 12, 2011 on Tuesday.

Hainsey fired 109 shots on goal over the 2011-12 and shortened 2013 campaign, but he was unable to find the back of the net over that span. From a fantasy perspective, the only thing noteworthy about Hainsey is his tendency to average two or more blocked shots per game.

Ron Hainsey, who signed a one-year contract with the Hurricanes Thursday, participated in the team's scrimmage Saturday.

That was fast. He didn't even have a chance practice with his teammates. "I went right into the scrimmage, no practice," said Hainsey. "That was fine. The quicker you get into game situations, whether it be in one-on-one's or right into a game, you've got to get that timing back with players coming at you, that kind of stuff. I was able to do that and we have a game, a full scrimmage, tomorrow, so that will be good." Hainsey was paired with Trevor Carrick Saturday and will play with Matt Corrente on Sunday. Keep an eye on the veteran defenseman as he may be a sneaky reserve roster pick.
