Grabner (hernia) was a full participant in Monday's practice, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.

Grabner underwent sports hernia surgery Thursday and will be sidelined for four-to-six weeks, Andy Strickland of 550 KTRS reports.

The report illustrates a more definitive recovery timetable for Grabner, who had previously been placed on injured reserve Monday without much fanfare. The winger proved to be a useful depth scorer for the Islanders last season with 12 goals in 64 games, but the team probably has enough quality forwards on hand to replace his production.

Grabner (undisclosed) has missed the Islanders' last two practices, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.

Coach Jack Capuano didn't provide much information on Grabner's condition, making it difficult to discern when he might return to the ice. Though Grabner has a 50-point season on his career resume, he's not necessarily guaranteed a top-nine wing spot to begin the season. Two spots remain up for grabs, with all of Grabner, Josh Bailey, Cory Conacher, Anders Lee and Jack Skille vying for the roles.
