Gordon netted the Oilers' only goal in Tuesday's 2-1 defeat to the Wild.

He got the Oilers on the board late in the second period when his wraparound shot bounced off the skate of Wild forward Kyle Brodziak and into the net. With only 10 points in 43 games this season, Gordon offers limited ability as a scorer, but he makes up for it through his dominance in the faceoff circle. He ranks 12th in the league with 464 faceoff victories and holds a higher winning percentage (56.0%) than all but three of those players above him.

Gordon (back) has been activated from injured reserve and will play Thursday against the Sharks, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports.

As anticipated, Gordon made it through the Oilers' gameday skate without incident. He'll be plugged back in on the fourth line Thursday, centering Matt Hendricks and Steve Pinizzotto.

Gordon (back) is set to return to the lineup Thursday against the Sharks, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports.

Gordon took part in rushes with the fourth line at Wednesday's practice and should be formally activated from IR on Thursday morning. He missed just over a week with the back issue. The Oilers will be glad to welcome their top face-off artist back to the lineup, but he won't be able to provide the offensive lift the Oilers desperately need right now.

Gordon (back) was placed on injured reserve Saturday.

The Oilers weren't expecting Gordon to return to game action anytime soon, so the move to IR will afford the team some more roster flexibility in their attempt to cover for his absence. Expect the team to recall a forward from AHL Oklahoma City prior to Sunday's tilt with the Rangers.

Coach Dallas Eakins said after Friday's morning skate that Gordon (back) isn't close to returning.

Gordon is one of the Oilers' top faceoff specialists and penalty killers, but he otherwise brings little utility in the fantasy realm. The team should have a better idea on a possible return timetable for the center once he starts skating again.

Gordon will sit out Tuesday's game against the Sharks with a back issue, Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal reports.

Though Gordon's injury hurts the Oilers' depth in their bottom-six, the club will be fortunate to welcome back Matt Hendricks (leg) into the lineup following a four-game absence. The extent of Gordon's injury remains unknown at this time, so he could potentially be a lineup option for Wednesday's game against the Ducks.

Gordon scored a shorthanded goal and finished plus-1 in Tuesday's loss to Dallas.

Gordon doesn't produce much offense, but he is good for about one shortie per year. With four goals in 22 games this season, Gordon's well ahead of his typical scoring pace, which says a lot about his offensive abilities.

Gordon netted the game-winning goal Friday against the Sabres.

The goal came late in the third period off a brilliant pass from Teddy Purcell. Gordon has now scored in two straight games and is up to four points in 14 games on the season. Don't read too much into this recent streak, as the fourth-liner won't keep it up and has never surpassed 29 points in a season.

Gordon scored his first goal of the season in Thursday's 5-2 loss to the Bruins.

Gordon staked the Oilers to an early lead with a first-period power-play goal, but was otherwise quiet during his 27 shifts, aside from winning 13 of 26 face-offs. Locked into a bottom-six role for the Oilers this season, Gordon will struggle to contribute points with much regularity.

Gordon is expected to serve as the Oilers' No. 3 center to begin the season, ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun reports.

Though filling the hole at the second-line center spot is the more pressing need for the Oilers, it appears that rookie Leon Draisaitl or Mark Arcobello will be given the opportunity to do so before Gordon does. Gordon is serviceable two-way depth center for the Oilers, but he doesn't offer enough offensive upside to keep up with the likes of David Perron and Nail Yakupov on the wings. Look for Gordon to finish with another season where he hovers around the 20-point mark.
