Gonchar had an assist and a minus-1 rating through 13:17 of play in Saturday's loss to San Jose.

Gonchar, once a great offensive defenseman, saw his production slow to a trickle last year and there's little reason to believe that will change this year. In his third game of the season he grabbed his first point, but he's not getting enough minutes to make him worth a gamble. He has yet to cross the 14-minute mark and will see his minutes protected throughout the season.

Gonchar (muscle soreness) was on the ice for morning skate and is expected to play Thursday against the Predators, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports.

The Stars weren't certain if Gonchar would be ready to play against the Predators after he experienced some soreness following his season debut Tuesday night, but it appears the 40-year-old was feeling better Thursday. Gonchar has some catching up to do on the conditioning front after missing nearly a month of action, so he'll likely only see limited minutes on the third pairing until he proves deserving of a greater role.

Gonchar has been bothered by some muscle soreness and his status for the Stars' game on Thursday against Nashville is in question, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Gonchar made his season debut on Tuesday in a 3-1 loss to the Kings, where he managed just one shot on goal. The 40-year-old defenseman had missed all of the Stars' previous games this season due to an ankle injury he suffered in the preseason. Gonchar's offensive production has been down the past few season but he can still provide a small boost due to his ability to rack up assists, accumulating at least 20 assists the past five seasons.

Gonchar will suit up for the first time on Tuesday as the Stars take on the Kings, according to Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News.

The Stars tried to trade Gonchar in the offseason, but that was a different time for the defense-starved team. His fantasy value may be limited though. Gonchar's offensive production is on the decline and the team protected his minutes quite a bit last season. Nonetheless, Gonchar will get some solid minutes as a welcome addition to a Stars roster that can't seem to stop the parade of pucks from going in their own net.

Gonchar (ankle) is questionable for Tuesday's game against the Kings, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Gonchar is apparently healthy enough to play, but may need to work on his conditioning before returning to the lineup. If he can't suit up Tuesday, he should be back in the lineup Thursday against the Predators.

Gonchar (ankle) will not return to action in the Stars' next two games, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Gonchar has demonstrated progress by resuming skating Monday, but he's probably not going to be ready play until next week at the earliest. In addition to the ankle ailment that continues to keep Gonchar out, the Stars also lost Patrik Nemeth to a season-ending injury this past Saturday, weakening an already-thin Dallas blue line.

It's not exactly clear where Gonchar stands in his recovery, but it's a good sign that he was able to get back on the ice. Gonchar will likely be ready to return to game action sometime in early-to-mid November.

Gonchar (ankle) was placed on injured reserve Monday.

Gonchar is not expected to return until early November due to a severe ankle injury. His injury will pave the way for youngster Jamie Oleksiak to make the Stars' Opening Night roster.

Gonchar has been ruled out for three-to-five weeks with an ankle injury, NHL.com's Mark Stepneski reports.

The multi-week injury likely ensures that Gonchar will open the season on injured reserve, and surely was a motivating factor in the Stars getting a deal done with restricted free agent Brenden Dillon. Now 40 years old and a full four years removed from his last 50-point campaign, Gonchar shouldn't be on anyone's radar outside of very deep leagues.
