Dan Girardi D NYR 6 Days

Girardi scored the game-winning goal in Sunday's win over the Oilers.

Girardi now has two goals and seven points in 28 games, to go with a plus-2 rating. The 30-year-old had gone quiet recently, as his tally Sunday was just his first point in 11 games. He's been more involved in the offense lately, however, recording a plus-5 rating in his last two games. More known for his defensive play, Girardi is still on pace for a five-goal, 20-point season, making him worth your time in some deeper formats.

Girardi has now gone nine straight games without registering a point.

More known for his strong defensive play, the usually dependable Girardi has most notably posted a minus-6 rating during the streak. While he's currently logging 20-plus minutes a game alongside first pair partner Ryan McDonagh, there's very few formats we could recommend the nine-year veteran as he's having arguably one of the worst seasons of his career.

Girardi potted his first goal of the season Thursday, a late-second-period tally that gave the Rangers a 3-2 lead in what ended up being a 4-3 shootout loss to the Avalanche.

Girardi was the beneficiary of a perfect pass from Mats Zuccarello right to him in the slot, and he buried the chance past Semyon Varlamov. With five points -- but 42 hits and 42 blocks -- in 16 games, Girardi's delivering about what we expect from him.

Girardi logged a game-high 32:58 in total ice time as the Rangers lost to the Blues in a shootout on Monday.

Unfortunately, Girardi (5:14 in PP TOI) was also tied for a game-high minus-2 rating with teammate Tanner Glass. In the wake of two major penalties on the team's blue line, Girardi has logged 66 minutes of total ice time in the last two contests. With both Kevin Klein and Ryan McDonagh out indefinitely, and a very busy schedule ahead for the club (13 games in 26 days), it's not likely to get any easier. Sure, he's guaranteed top four minutes, but a plethora of inexperience on the team's blue line hardly inspires enough confidence to pick up 32-year-old Ontario native.

Girardi (foot) will play in Tuesday's game against the Devils, Newsday's Steve Zipay reports.

A decision on Girardi's status was not expected to come until game time, but it appears fantasy owners will not have to wait to find out whether or not he will suit up Tuesday night. Girardi figures to line up in his regular spot on the Rangers' top defensive pairing.

Girardi (foot) will be a game-time decision for Tuesday's game against the Devils.

Girardi did not practice Monday after receiving stitches in his foot following Sunday's game, but he gave himself a chance to play Tuesday by taking part in the Rangers' morning skate. A final call on Girardi's status likely will not be made until pregame warmups, but head coach Alain Vigneault said "it would take a lot to keep (Girardi) out of the lineup."

Girardi (foot) did not practice with the team Monday, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.

Girardi received stitches in his foot after blocking a shot in Sunday's 4-0 win over the Sharks, and it looks like he could miss some time. It seems unlikely that he'll be ready to suit up for Tuesday at this point, but the morning skate should give us a better indication of exactly where he's at. If Girardi can't play, expect Michael Kostka to step in and replace him on the Rangers blue line.

Girardi (undisclosed) returned to practice Wednesday, Andrew Gross of the Bergen Record reports.

The Rangers didn't offer any insight as to why Girardi had been limited the last few days, but at any rate, it seems the defenseman is healthy and ready for a return to preseason action. He's expect to play next to Ryan McDonagh on the Rangers' top defensive pair, though he won't provide nearly the fantasy-relevant production his mate will.
