David Backes has been seen wearing a walking boot and he may not be available to play before the regular season is over.

"He is going to be out for potentially three games and then play," said coach Ken Hitchcock, suggesting that Backes could be ready when the playoffs begin. He was injured Tuesday night after his left foot was struck by a shot from teammate Alexander Steen.

Coach Ken Hitchcock doesn't think David Backes gives himself enough credit for his capabilities on offense.

"I think that's one of the things that's really evolved in his game," Hitchcock said. "He's not just a checker, he's a guy that can play in both ends of the rink. He's very good offensively, he's underrated offensively. I think people are starting to see that." He's surpassed the 60-point mark once in his career and he's on pace to do it again in 2013-14. Backes is also four goals away from tying his personal best of 31.
