Gagner's position to start the season is up in the air as Coah Dave Tippett is considering playing him on the wing, according to Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic.

Playing the wing shouldn't affect Gagner's fantasy potential, except possibly expanding his position eligibility. The Coyotes' are counting on him to be a big part of the offence regardless and fantasy owners hope he will realize his potential after years of teasing it.

Gagner will play against the Sharks on Friday, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.

Gagner was expected to suit up for Friday's contest, and now that suspicion has been confirmed. With that news, he shouldn't miss any regular season time due to the injury. Gagner is set to play on the line with Martin Hanzal and Martin Erat for the finale.

Gagner (undisclosed) began practicing at right wing Sunday, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.

Coach Dave Tippett is merely experimenting to see where Gagner -- who played center, his natural position, for the first week of camp -- fits best with his new team. Gagner was held out of Monday's preseason game vs. the Canucks as a precaution after he was banged up in last Friday's contest, but he should return to the ice for the remainder of the Coyotes' exhibition schedule.

Sam Gagner is motivated to "prove some people wrong next season" as a member of the Coyotes.

He has seven NHL seasons under his belt and he's set to turn just 25 years old next month. Gagner recorded 49 points in his rookie campaign, but he hasn't been able to surpass that mark ever since. He should get plenty of opportunities to succeed in Arizona and the change of scenary could finally translate into a breakout season.

Newly acquired center Sam Gagner is expected to see more power play time with the Phoenix Coyotes.

Gagner was stuck behind Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and finished seventh on the Oilers in power play time on ice with 174:58 as he had only one goal and seven points with the man-advantage. The Coyotes will need first line power play players as they bought out Mike Ribeiro and should lose Radim Vrbata to free agency.

Sam Gagner was traded twice Sunday, winding up with the Arizona Coyotes.

Gagner was traded earlier Sunday by the Edmonton Oilers to the Tampa Bay Lightning for right winger Teddy Purcell. He wasn't with Tampa Bay long enough for a cup of coffee, though, as the Lightning quickly turned around and dealt him and right winger B.J. Crombeen to the Phoenix Coyotes for a sixth-round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft. Gagner, 24, had 10 goals and 27 assists in 67 games last season after missing the first 13 games because of a broken jaw. He has two years remaining on a contract with an annual $4.8 million NHL salary-cap charge, according to CapGeek.com. Gagner was the No. 6 pick in the 2007 NHL Draft and had eight points (four goals, four assists) in a game Feb. 2, 2012 against the Chicago Blackhawks.
