Fiddler added an assist in Tuesday's loss to Carolina, giving him points in three straight games.

It's a good streak for the 34-year-old forward, but he still has just two goals and five assists on the season. This may be more of a streak than an indication of what you should expect from Fiddler for the rest of the season.

Fiddler scored the Stars' lone goal in Saturday's loss to the Wild.

Fiddler's tally came just eight seconds after Matt Dumba gave the Wild a 2-0 lead, but it would prove to be only offense the Stars were able to scratch out on the night. The 34-year-old has three points in 11 games on the season and figures to be an infrequent source of points while he remains relegated to bottom-six duties.

Vernon Fiddler chose to re-sign with the Dallas Stars because he likes the direction of the team.

"Honestly, I had better offers. But I wanted to stay with this team and finish the job," Fiddler said. "There is a real attraction to playing here and playing to win, and seeing this through. I think this is going to be a really good team, and I want to be a part of that." In addition to Fiddler, the Stars signed Ales Hemsky, Patrick Eaves and goalie Anders Lindback. The team also acquired Jason Spezza from the Ottawa Senators. Fiddler requested a trade last year because he wanted more ice time, but he stayed the with the club and "everything took care of itself." He'll make $1 million next season and $1.5 million in 2015-16, while continuing to serve as a bottom-six forward.

Vernon Fiddler has inked a two-year contract extension with the Dallas Stars.

Fiddler tested the unrestricted free agent market, but ultimately decided to rejoin his former squad. He had six goals and 23 points in 76 games last season. The Stars bolstered their top two lines by adding Jason Spezza and Ales Hemsky, but Fiddler will serve as a valuable depth player as the team sets its sights on making a long playoff run.

It's unclear if Vernon Fiddler will be back with the Dallas Stars next season.

He can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer and could decide to test the market. Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News described his situation well when he said: "The Stars have to make room for the kids, but will likely use the safety net of one-year deals to protect them next season. If Fiddler wants to sign a one-year deal, I can almost guarantee he will be back. If I'm his agent, I tell him to test the market and look for something more than that." Fiddler had six goals and 17 assists in 76 games this past season.
