Matt Duchene (knee) is taking part in Saturday's morning skate.

Coach Patrick Roy announced shortly after Game 3 that Duchene wouldn't play Saturday night, but he skated with regular linemates Ryan O'Reilly and Jamie McGinn during rushes. The question of his status will probably come up again when Roy speaks to the media, so stay tuned.

Matt Duchene is progressing nicely in his recovery from a knee injury but won't play Saturday in Game 5 against Minnesota.

Duchene has been skating since Monday and is getting close to a return from an MCL injury that has sidelined him since March 29th. Originally, the Avs were saying there was no chance Duchene would play in Round 1, but Colorado coach Patrick Roy seemed to backpedal a little on that Friday. "We're very happy where he is right now," Roy said of Duchene. "Now, is he going to play in this series? We're not sure yet. We'll see." Seems like things are looking up for Duchene. R

Matt Duchene (knee) will return to the Avalanche's lineup on Saturday.

That being said, Duchene might return before the end of the first round. That would obviously be a huge boost for the Avalanche after he recorded 70 points in 71 games in the regular season.

Coach Patrick Roy reiterated on Thursday night that he'd be "very surprised" if Matt Duchene was able to play during Colorado's first round series against Minnesota.

Roy was asked after the Avalanche's 2-1 loss to the Wild if Duchene might be back on Saturday for Game 5 and he said that won't happen. Colorado could certainly use the offensive boost after two flat games on the road, where they struggled to post shots and scored only one goal. Duchene has been out of action since Mar. 29 with an MCL injury, but he has resumed skating.

Matt Duchene (knee) skated for more than 30 minutes on Tuesday.

He said this injury is less severe than a similar MCL sprain he had two seasons ago, but he isn't sure when he'll be available to return. "It helps knowing my body way better than I did the last time I hurt my knee," said Duchene. "It's a process, and I understand the process better this time."

Matt Duchene (knee) skated Monday for the first time since suffering a sprained MCL on March 29.

"The trainer thought it was good timing for him to start skating today," coach Patrick Roy said. "We'll go day-to-day with him on the skating, and then hopefully he can start practicing with the team." He skated and did some stickhandling, but he didn't participate in any team drills.

Matt Duchene (knee) is slated to try to skate Monday morning.

"That will be his first time on the ice, and we'll see how it goes," coach Patrick Roy said Sunday. "We're not going to push. We're going to be very smart about when he's going to come back. He's going to want to play soon, and it's going to be up to our doctors and (trainers) Matt (Sokolow- ski) and Scotty (Woodward) to determine if he's ready to play." Duchene still isn't expected to play in the first round against Minnesota.

Matt Duchene (knee) likely won't be available during the first round of the playoffs.

Coach Patrick Roy confirmed that news Saturday. It was expected that Duchene wouldn't play in the opening round when he got hurt back on Mar. 29 following a collision with teammate Jamie McGinn. He sustained a strained MCL on the play.

Matt Duchene (knee) will miss the Avalanche's first two playoff games at a minimum.

Duchene had 23 goals and 70 points in 71 games this season. He didn't take part in Tuesday's practice and it wouldn't be shocking if he doesn't return before the end of the first round.

Matt Duchene (knee) is projected to miss three-to-four weeks with a knee injury.

It's likely that he'll miss the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, which would be a significant blow to the Colorado Avalanche.
