Dorsett has decided to officially end his NHL career due to healh risks incurred from playing again.

The 30-year-old finishes his career having amassed 127 points (51 goals, 76 assists) and a whopping 1,314 penalty minutes over 515 contests.

However, he's recently dealt with neck and back stiffness, so the Canucks determined it was best for him to return to Vancouver and undergo further evaluation for precautionary reasons Tuesday. Dorsett can be considered out indefinitely until Vancouver releases another statement regarding his status.

Canucks GM Jim Benning is appealing Dorsett's instigator penalty from Thursday night's loss to the Ducks, Ben Kuzma of The Vancouver Province reports. This is noteworthy because it could result in a two-game suspension for the winger if the decision is upheld.

Dorsett's already been assessed two instigator penalties and the NHL's rule book states that a third would cost him two games. While the Canadian brute is generally known more for his physical play than his effort in the attacking zone, we'll point out that Dorsett has seven goals in 16 games thanks to a 30.4 shooting percentage -- that's obviously not sustainable, but he's also bagged two shorthanded goals this season and the Canucks losing him for any amount of time would really hurt the team and fantasy owners alike in some of the ancillary categories.

After a red-hot stretch at the start of the season, Dorsett had gone quiet over the last four games. The fourth-liner is proving to be quite the story with nine points through his first 15 games. He's playing great for a fourth-liner, but keep in mind he's just that. His 46 PIM and depth scoring make him a quality fantasy play in deeper formats.

Dorsett scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season in Sunday's win over Detroit.

EDGE Analysis

We keep telling you his goal-scoring will slow down and he keeps proving us wrong, so maybe it's time to get on board with the Dorsett hype. There's no denying what he's doing is impressive, but realistically there's no way he keeps it going. The fourth-liner is usually known for his PIM contributions and his previous career-high in goals is 12. The fact he's outscoring Connor McDavid this season is just absurd, but be smart about it and know this won't last. He can be be of value in deeper formats, but take advantage and sell high if there's someone looking to acquire him for a slumping top-six forward.

Dorsett scored his second goal of the season and was tagged for 17 PIM in Thursday's loss to the Bruins.

Dorsett only skated 11:58 in the defeat, but he was sure to make his ice time count. The 30-year-old has racked up 17 PIM in each of his previous two outings and is now up to a whopping 42 PIM through six contests. Dorsett is capable of netting the occasional goal on Vancouver's fourth line, but it's his consistent PIM totals that make him worth owning in some very deep leagues.

Dorsett skates on the fourth line and has never scored more than 12 goals in an NHL season, but he's a very reliable source of PIM and hits. While it's good to see the 30-year-old back in action after undergoing season-ending neck surgery last December, he won't offer much fantasy value outside of the deepest of leagues.

Those quotes tell you pretty much everything you need to know about the veteran enforcer as a player -- he's not likely to put up a lot of points, but he'll play tough and will make things easier for the scorers around him.

So ends an injury-plagued season for Dorsett. The 30-year-old has mainly played the role of an enforcer for much of his career, which would explain the four points, 33 penalty minutes, and 35 hits he accumulated this season while seeing only 9:56 of ice time on average. He'll look to get healthy and resume his position in the Canucks' bottom-six next fall.
