Damien Brunner had a weight lifted from him after finally ending his 17-game goal scoring slump on Tuesday.
After snapping the drought at 1:08 of the second period, he added a second goal midway through the final frame. "It's definitely nice when you score after a stretch like that," Brunner said. "I definitely didn't want it to get past the 20-game mark." His offensive struggles have led to him spending some time in the press box this season. He has the potential to be a solid top-six forward though, so he's worth keeping an eye on.

New Jersey Devils forward Damien Brunner broke a lengthy slump on Tuesday, but his team lost to the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-4.
Brunner scored two goals, his first tallies since Oct. 26. He failed to collect a point in 15 of his last 17 points after starting off the season with four goals and three assists in 11 games. Disappointing stuff from a guy who seemed like a free agent steal early on.

Damien Brunner will be a healthy scratch on Friday against the Detroit Red Wings.
"Obviously, I want to play every game," Brunner said. "It's too bad now I'm scratched tonight, but I'm going to be ready for the next game I play." This isn't the first time he's been scratched this season and he only has eight points in 26 games this season. Detroit balked at Brunner's asking price over the summer, which led to him signing a two-year/$5 million deal the New Jersey Devils. So far, he's done nothing to suggest that the Red Wings were wrong to let him walk away.

Brunner was also a healthy scratch on Thursday. "After all the games I've played this season, it's a surprise I'm out after the last game," Brunner said. "I had good jump. My legs were underneath me. I was skating the right way. I generated a lot of speed through the neutral zone. We had a lot of (offensive) zone time. At least no (defensive zone) time." He thinks that as long as he continues to play like he did on Monday, he should be fine despite this setback. That being said, Devils coach Pete DeBoer pointed to Brunner's stat line as evidence that he didn't do enough. Brunner had no points or shots on goal on Monday.
