Shane Doan RW PHO 4 Months

Shane Doan scored the 350th goal of his NHL career Saturday night and needs one more goal to score at least 20 in a season for the 12th time in his career.

But can he surpass Gordie Howe's record for most games in an NHL career? The legendary Howe holds the NHL record for games played with 1,767. If Doan, who is 37, plays in all 15 of the Coyotes' remaining games in this regular season, he would enter next season with 1,315 games played. In order to catch Howe's record, Doan would have to play approximately five and a half more 82-game seasons - and that's without missing a game. In other words, he would have to play until he was at least 43. Hey, it's possible.

The Coyotes are trying to focus on their own game, rather than worrying about the teams in front of them.

Phoenix is two points out of the final wild-card spot with 15 games remaining. "You can get overwhelmed by the big picture if you're thinking, 'Well, we gotta get to this number. We gotta get to that number,' " captain Shane Doan said. "You gotta keep it simple and acknowledge, hey, other teams are going to do their best to win and we gotta find a way to continue to get points in each game and find ways to push games along, as (coach Dave Tippett) always says, and find ways to get points.

Shane Doan isn't surprised in the slightest that there hasn't been much scoring at the Olympic hockey tournament in Sochi.

"You put the game on bigger ice, and that's what's going to happen," the Phoenix Coyotes' captain and former Olympian said. "It takes you more time to get to the net from the corner. It takes you longer to get to the goal with the way that defenses cover the middle now. It's harder. It's harder to score on the bigger ice."
