Cory Conacher notched three goals and three assists in 19 games with the Buffalo Sabres after he was claimed off waivers from Ottawa on March 5.

He didn't have a point in his last eight games and his ice time dropped as a result. Conacher had also been drawing plenty of penalties, but in Buffalo he wasn't as effective. He was assessed eight penalties in Buffalo and drew only nine. Conacher wants to get back on track next season. "Maybe I came in in a tough situation, but it's always exciting to come back to Buffalo," he said. "I played here four years, and it's so close to home. This is a team that's going to be exciting in the near future. Obviously, right now we're rebuilding, but I don't think that rebuilding stage will last very long with this team."

Cory Conacher, who had been playing on the Sabres' top line alongisde Tyler Ennis and Drew Stafford, was shifted to Buffalo's second unit Thursday.

He played with Cody Hodgson and Torrey Mitchell on the team's second unit and promptly scored his first two goals as a Sabre. Look for Buffalo coach Ted Nolan to keep his top two forward lines intact for Sunday's game against the Canucks. Keep an eye on Conacher. Despite his slow start with the Sabres we think he may have some fantasy value going forward.

Cory Conacher has been claimed by the Buffalo Sabres.

Conacher had four goals and 20 points in 60 games with the Ottawa Senators this season. That's a significant step back from his impressive rookie campaign, but the 24-year-old certainly has a lot of potential. Getting Conacher on waivers might prove to be a steal for Buffalo.

The Ottawa Senators have placed Cory Conacher on waivers.

Roughly 11 months ago, Ottawa acquired Conacher from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Ben Bishop. Although Conacher showed a lot of promise at the time as a rookie, it's fair to say that the Lightning have won the trade as Bishop has been one of the league's top goaltenders this season. All that being said, we expect someone to claim Conacher and perhaps the change of scenery and a fresh opportunity will help him shake off his rough sophomore campaign.
