Blackhawks forward Brandon Saad will be a restricted free agent after next season and is due for a huge raise to the $764,167 he's making on his entry-level contract.

Saad said there have been no talks about an extension yet. ''If it happens, great,'' he said. ''It's always nice to have that security and feel comfortable that you've re-signed. But I'm more focused on having a good year and contributing to the team. All that stuff will take care of itself.'' General manager Stan Bowman said that ''it's been a busy time for us'' and that Saad's situation will be addressed eventually. ''The exciting thing for all of us is that he just keeps getting better,'' Bowman said. ''We certainly haven't seen the best of Brandon Saad yet.'' Saad had 19 goals and 28 assists in 78 games for Chicago last season.

Brandon Saad had a very successful sophomore season.

Saad scored 19 goals and 47 points in 78 games in 2013-14, but he did even better in the playoffs with six goals and 16 points in 19 contests. "I think he's kind of taken his game up to that next level," Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman said. "He had a very good season in general; it wasn't just he past few weeks. But you're looking for, expecting him to kind of play up to that level starting next year." We wouldn't be surprised if he surpasses the 50-point mark in 2014-15 while getting plenty of time on one of the Blackhawks' top two lines.

Brandon Saad generated a goal and an assist in Game 7 of the Western Conference Final.

He opened the scoring against Los Angeles and set up Patrick Sharp's power-play goal in the second period to give Chicago a 4-3 lead heading into the final frame. However, the Kings came back and won the contest in overtime to send the defending champs packing. The 21-year-old winger appeared to be getting stronger as the playoffs went on and coach Joel Quenneville was impressed. "We like (Saad's) progress," said Chicago's bench boss. "He's a young kid (and) his upside is definitely big." Saad ended the postseason with three goals and four assists over a four-game point streak to finish with 16 points and a plus-10 rating in 19 contests.

Brandon Saad has been one of Chicago's better performers over the Blackhawks' last three games.

He has registered five points over that span and has taken an impressive 12 shots on goal. Saad leads the Hawks with a plus 10 rating over the playoffs and will go into Game 7 Sunday with a three-game point streak on the line. If the Kings think shutting down Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews and Marian Hossa will guarantee them a victory Sunday, Saad may make them pay as he is certainly capable of taking hte team on his shoulders as he did in Game 5.

The Los Angeles Kings realize that Brandon Saad is a serious threat going into Game 6 on Friday.

Kings coach Darryl Sutter said that their problem in Game 5 was that they couldn't keep up with Saad. The Blackhawks forward has five goals and 13 points in 17 playoff contests.

Brandon Saad was instrumental in the Blackhawks' 5-4 double overtime win over the Kings on Wednesday night, scoring a goal and adding two helpers including the game-winning assist.

The sophomore 21 year-old played well beyond his years in Game 5, grinding and pushing the pace all over the ice on Wednesday night and was rewarded with three big points, all of which were needed to hold off the feisty Kings. The Pittsburgh native has 13 points in 17 playoff games so far.

Brandon Saad scored his fourth goal of the playoffs but it wasn't enough as the Chicago Blackhawks lost 5-2 in Game 4 Monday.

Saad's goal cut the lead to 4-1 in the second period and Chicago got closer in the third when Bryan Bickell scored his seventh of the post-season with just over 10:30 left in the game but they could get no closer as Jonathan Quick shut the door. Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane an Michal Rozsival picked up assists in the losing effort.

Saad scored a power-play goal and assisted on Duncan Keith's game-winner as Chicago managed to win a tough opening contest against Los Angeles. This series may very well come to talented depth players like Saad.

His markers ended a 19-game goalless drought, dating back to the regular season. Saad scored in the final minute of the second period and he added an empty netter late in the third. He has seven points and 11 shots in eight playoff games.
