David Rundblad D CHI 6 Days
David Rundblad won't be in Chicago's lineup Thursday night.
He could make his Blackhawks' debut Sunday against the Buffalo Sabres. "He's a really talented player," GM Stan Bowman said. "David has excellent offensive skills. I think sometimes a change of scenery can help a player like him. Fitting in with the group we have here, I think he's got a lot of potential." Rundblad may have trouble cracking Chicago's deep defense corps, so he'll have to stand out when he gets his opportunity to play.

The Chicago Blackhawks have acquired David Rundblad from the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for a 2014 second-round draft pick.
Rundblad was taken with the 17th overall pick in the 2009 NHL Entry by the St. Louis Blues, but he hasn't worked out so far. This is the third time he's been traded and he's played in just 50 career NHL games. He does have some offensive upside, but we don't see him getting much, if any, power-play ice time in Chicago.

The Coyotes announced Friday they've sent defenseman David Rundblad to their American Hockey League affiliate for a conditioning assignment.
Rundblad doesn't have to clear waivers to go to Portland, but the assignment can only last up to two weeks. The move certainly seems to suggest that Brandon Gormley and Chris Summers will remain on the roster once the schedule picks up.

David Rundblad has played in three of the five Coyotes games thus far.
The good news for Rundblad owners is that he was not sent down when Rostislav Klesla returned to the lineup as former first round pick Chris Summers was. He is currently not in the top-six but with his offensive skills, he should be back in the lineup shortly. "If we can't find that skill up front, then let's get that skill on our blue line," GM Don Maloney said. "That's one thing he has and I think the more that we see him evolve this year, we'll see the skill that he has with the puck. He rivals (Mike) Ribeiro in a lot of ways." Rundblad will likely be a fixture on the point for the first power play unit in the future so try and grab him in keeper leagues.

Defenseman David Rundblad led the Phoenix Coyotes in scoring during the preseason with seven points in six games.
Rundblad did not score a goal in the preseason and coach Dave Tippett was quite impressed with his effort. "He's high skill," Tippett said. "He can make great plays. You're looking at him, can he handle the competitive parts of the game? And it's corner battles, net-front battles, things like that. He's never going to be a heavy, like you're not going to say, 'That guy Rundblad rag-dolled him and threw him down.' He does it through smarts and skill, and there have been a lot of great defensemen that have played that way. He reminds me of a player I used to play with in Pittsburgh in Larry Murphy. Murph, everybody said he wasn't a great skater but, ultimately, when he went into the corner, he used his smarts and his skill to win pucks." This could be Rundblad's breakout year so grab him late in deeper leagues.
