Nugent-Hopkins scored his first goal of the season -- a game winner -- as Edmonton knocked off the visiting Lightning 3-2 on Monday.

RNH made Tampa pay in the third period after Ondrej Palat gifted an awful turnover to Jordan Eberle, who grabbed the only assist on his goal. Now that the Oilers have gotten their first win of the season out of the way, look for the Oilers' top line of Nugent-Hopkins, Eberle and Taylor Hall to get on the scoresheet more consistently.

Nugent-Hopkins (undisclosed) was on the ice for morning skate and looks likely to play Friday against the Canucks, TSN's Ryan Rishaug reports.

Nugent-Hopkins was forced out of back-to-back contests earlier this week with the injury, but his return to morning skate, as well as the Oilers' demotion of Bogdan Yakimov, bodes well for his chances of returning to action. However, it does appear Nugent-Hopkins won't return to his usual spot as the pivot of the top line, as coach Dallas Eakins chose to adjust his trios of forwards at morning skate. Instead, look for Nugent-Hopkins to center the second line, with Teddy Purcell and Nail Yakupov flanking him on either side.

Nugent-Hopkins (undisclosed) will not play Wednesday against the Coyotes.

The Oilers apparently don't believe that Nugent-Hopkins' injury is all that serious, but it's troublesome enough to keep him out for both ends of the team's back-to-back. Wednesday's demotion of Bogdan Yakimov to AHL Oklahoma City would appear to signal that Nugent-Hopkins could be ready to play Friday against Carolina.

Nugent-Hopkins (undisclosed) will not play Tuesday against the Kings, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

Nugent-Hopkins is still feeling sore after taking a hit from Vancouver's Dan Hamhuis on Saturday night, forcing him out of Monday's practice. Along with RNH, fellow top-liner Jordan Eberle will sit out with an undisclosed injury, leaving the Oilers a bit short-handed on offensive talent.

Nugent-Hopkins has been labeled day-to-day with an undisclosed injury, but could play Tuesday, Oilers play-by-play man Jack Michaels reports.

RNH, Jordan Eberle, Teddy Purcell and Darnell Nurse are all in that same category, with the Oilers withholding all information about their ailments. However, the 2011 No. 1 overall pick had his first NHL fight Saturday against Dan Hamhuis of the Avs, and it's possible that he's banged up a little as a result. He's got an assist and a minus-2 rating through two games thus far.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had a goal and two assists on Tuesday.

That snapped Nugent-Hopkins' 16-game goal scoring slump. It also represents his first noteworthy offensive night in a while, given that he entered the contest with just two assists in his last 13 matches. He now has 16 goals and 47 points in 68 games this season.

Edmonton Oilers head coach Dallas Eakins doesn't seem overly concerned about Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' recently slump.

Nugent-Hopkins has just three points in his last 11 games. "Young players don't play at the same level every night, and he's having a bit of a dip," Eakins said. "The good thing about Nuge is he's not frustrated by it, he's more inspired to get after it. He's not dragging his lip and playing the poor-me card. He's fighting to get better, and that's all we can ask. He's engaged, he understands, and it's important that he be a critical, critical part of our forward group." We don't think his currently slump will last much longer.

The Edmonton Oilers have not scored a power play goal in their last six games.

The last time the Oilers found the back of the net with the man-advantage was on January 29. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins leads the team with 16 power play points, one ahead of Jordan Eberle and four ahead of Taylor Hall. "It's just a matter of bearing down and scoring," Eberle said. "You score and you get confidence and it rolls into the five-on-five play. When you haven't scored in a while, doubt starts to creep in." The Oilers will look to turn it around on Tuesday as they are on an 0-19 drought on the pp.
