Carl Hagelin's deflected back-handed goal got the Rangers on the board Thursday night and helped spark the offense the rest of the night.

Although Henrik Lundqvist called it "probably the ugliest goal I've ever seen," there's no denying the impact it had on the psyche of a Rangers team that was down 2-0 in the game and 3-0 in the series. "Carl's goal gave us life," said Derek Stepan, whose goal 1:15 into the third period tied the game at 2-2. The Rangers eventually won 4-3 in overtime to force Game 5 in Boston on Saturday night.

Carl Hagelin doesn't believe he "stinks" on the power play, contrary to what coach John Tortorella told the media on Saturday.

"For me, I definitely don't think I stink on the power play," Hagelin said in his defense. "That's the only comment I have on the PP." He received 46 seconds of man advantage time in Sunday's loss to Boston and felt he generated a couple of good chances.

The New York Rangers' putrid power play came up short once more in a 5-2 loss to the Boston Bruins in Game 2 on Sunday.

The Rangers PP went 0-for-5 today. Considering how poorly things have been going, can it really "stink" any more if Carl Hagelin is inserted back into the special teams mix? To be fair to him, he's averaged about 10 seconds of PP time per contest.

Carl Hagelin has only logged 1:51 minutes worth of power-play ice time in the postseason.

That's not likely to change as Rangers coach John Tortorella thinks Hagelin "stinks" with the man advantage. "I don't know why," Tortorella said. "I wish I could put him on the power play, but every time I put him on he stinks."

Carl Hagelin registered three points in the Rangers' 4-3 win over the Capitals on Wednesday night in Game 4 of their first-round series.

The speedy Hagelin really had his legs going in this one, and that made him a major factor, with a goal and two helpers. He also finished with a game-high plus-three rating and four shots on goal. Derek Stepan had the winner for the second straight game on a nice give-and-go with Hagelin. Brad Richards and Dan Girardi picked up the other goals for the Rangers, who have now tied the series at two games apiece. Derick Brassard chipped in with two helpers, and he now has five points over his last two tilts.

Carl Hagelin didn't practice Sunday.

He received a "maintenance day" from the team. Hagelin had a goal and four shots in the Rangers' playoff opener, but in Game 2's shutout loss he posted just one shot. Look for him to play Monday night.

Carl Hagelin was the Rangers' best forward Thursday night, yet he only received 25 seconds of power play time.

It's an odd decision from coach John Tortorella, as the power play went 0-for-4. Hagelin had his legs in this one, and he was flying all over the ice, getting the team's only goal via a wraparound. He had four shots on goal in 17:15. "Our power play's been good lately, so whatever Torts throws out there," Hagelin said. "To be honest, that's not on my mind. No."ÿ
