Blake Comeau LW PIT 3 Days

Comeau (wrist) skated prior to Monday's session but remains 5-to-7 days away from returning to practice.

Comeau has missed the last 13 games with a wrist injury. It appears as though he'll miss at least another week of practice, and he's without a timetable to return to game action.

Comeau (wrist) is scheduled to receive X-rays later this week.

The examination should allow the Penguins to better ascertain a return timetable for Comeau, who has missed the last 11 games with the injury. He hasn't been cleared to resume on-ice work during that time, but Johnston acknowledged the possibility that if all goes well with his checkup, the winger could begin skating in the next four or five days. He's been a productive addition to the Penguins this season, netting 11 goals and 19 points in 32 games.

Coach Mike Johnson said Tuesday that Comeau would miss several weeks with a suspected wrist injury.

Comeau is just the latest in a long line of casualties for the Penguins, as he's now the 10th skater and sixth forward listed on the team's injured reserve list. Prior to suffering the injury, Comeau had been on track for his best season since 2010-11, mostly as a byproduct of seeing frequent time on the Evgeni Malkin line. With the specter of a lengthy absence now in store, it will be difficult for fantasy owners to justify rostering Comeau until he returns from the injury.

Comeau, who suffered a wrist injury Monday against the Panthers, was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

No word was available on the severity of Comeau's injury since the Penguins didn't hold a morning skate Tuesday, but the placement on IR will result in the winger missing at least three contests. He becomes the 10th player to land on injured reserve for the Penguins, who replaced him with AHL call-up Dominik Uher.

Comeau left Monday's game against the Panthers in the third period with an undisclosed injury, Josh Yohe of the Tribune-Review reports.

Coach Mike Johnston said after Monday's game that Comeau's injury may in fact be serious. Until further news is released by the Penguins, he should be considered day-to-day ahead of Tuesday's game against the Lightning.

Comeau potted his 11th goal of he season -- and third game-winner -- in a 1-0 overtime victory against Colorado on Thursday.

He's scored three goals in his last four games, registering 15 shots. Comeau dished out only one hit Thursday but has totaled 86 hits in 30 contests. The winger has earned his top-six standing and figures to play with Evgeni Malkin -- who assisted on his game-winning score Thursday -- for the foreseeable future.

Comeau netted his second goal in as many nights against a former team Saturday in Columbus.

The forward, who also scored against the Flames on Friday, now has 10 goals and 18 points in 28 games. Comeau has gained the trust of coach Mike Johnston and provided Pittsburgh with offensive production during a time when only Evgeni Malkin has played in all 28 games as a top-six forward.

Comeau potted his ninth goal just 48 seconds into Pittsburgh's 3-1 win over the Flames on Friday.

Only a pretty Jonas Hiller pad save prevented Comeau from netting his second goal of the night. The well-traveled winger, who recorded three hits, entered the game with 77 hits -- 18th most among NHL forwards. Comeau has a chance to finish with a positive plus-minus rating for the first time since 2007-08 (he's currently plus-5).

Comeau picked up the primary assist on Evgeni Malkin's goal Tuesday, giving him 15 points (8G, 7A) in 23 games.

Comeau has settled into his spot alongside Malkin and now has even more seniority than the line's third member, Jayson Megna, who replaced the injured Chris Kunitz (foot). Megna is also seeing steady time on the team's second-unit power play and has become more important to the team with every passing game.

Comeau potted a hat trick Wednesday in Pittsburgh's 4-3 overtime win against Toronto.

He also led the team with five hits and four shots. Comeau appears to have found a home with Evgeni Malkin and Chris Kunitz. The fact that he was on the ice in overtime with Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang shows the level of trust coach Mike Johnston has in the journeyman. Comeau now has eight goals and 13 points in 20 games for the Pens.
