Atkinson picked up a goal on five shots and added an assist in Tuesday's win over Washington.

The talented Atkinson hadn't been productive for the Jackets recently, having tallied just a lonely assist over the last 14 games. But his five shots Tuesday represent his highest total since Nov. 15, so perhaps Atkinson's finding his game again.

Atkinson set up Matt Calvert's game-winning goal in Saturday's game against the Bruins.

Atkinson nearly had the goal for himself, but his point shot slowed to a crawl after it was partially stopped by goalie Tuukka Rask before Calvert cleaned up the mess. It marked the first point for the winger since Dec. 11, as he had been held off the score sheet for the last 11 games. He'll need to start producing with more consistency before becoming a lineup consideration for fantasy players.

Atkinson was activated off injured reserve Tuesday.

Atkinson has missed three consecutive games since suffering an upper body injury against Boston on December 27th. Atkinson has tallied eight goals and six assists in 33 games with Columbus this season.

Atkinson (upper body) could return for Tuesday's game against the Stars, Jeff Rimer of Fox Sports Ohio reports.

Atkinson practiced Friday, but wasn't available for Saturday's game against the Coyotes. His return would give a little bit of relief for the Blue Jackets, who have multiple forwards currently sitting out with injuries.

Atkinson (upper body) was a participant in Friday's practice, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.

Atkinson won't be an option for Saturday's game against the Coyotes since he didn't see any involvement in line rushes, but it doesn't look like he's in line for an absence much further beyond that. The winger should increase his involvement in practice in the coming days and appears to be trending toward an activation at some point next week.

Atkinson (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.

The 25-year-old's IR stint is retroactive to Dec. 27. The Jackets indicated Tuesday that they don't believe Atkinson is dealing with a long-term injury, so it seems plausible that he won't be out for much longer than the seven-day minimum. Sean Collins was recalled from AHL Springfield in a corresponding move.

Coach Todd Richards said Tuesday that Atkinson (upper body) isn't looking like a long-term absence, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.

Atkinson has already been ruled out for the New Year's Eve tilt with the Wild, but his presence on the ice Tuesday suggests he's not especially far off a return. It amounts to a rare bit of good news on the injury front for the Jackets, who have been one of the league's most banged-up teams this season.

Coach Todd Richards said Saturday that Atkinson (upper body) will miss "at least Wednesday's game" against the Wild.

Atkinson suffered the injury during Saturday's win over Boston when he took a shot from Matt Bartkowski. After sitting out Wednesday, his next chance to return will come Jan. 3 against the Coyotes.

Atkinson left Saturday's game against the Bruins with an upper-body injury and will not return, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.

Atkinson took a shot from Matt Bartkowski during his second shift and exited shortly thereafter. Consider Atkinson day-to-day and questionable to play Wednesday against Minnesota until more information becomes available.

Atkinson scored a breakaway goal and added a helper Thursday in a 4-3 shootout win over Florida, snapping a seven-game scoring slump.

He'd gone without a point over the last seven and suffered a minus-6 rating in that span, during which the Jackets lost six times. Atkinson has impressive offensive talent, but his lack of size and the team's general struggles have conspired to limit his productivity to 12 points in 24 games -- right in line with last year's scoring rate, but fantasy owners were looking for him to make strides toward 50-point productivity this year.
