Barrie led all Avs players with three points in a 5-2 win over the Stars on Saturday.

With three assists and a plus-3 rating, Barrie now has 18 points in 24 games with an even rating this season. Though undersized as a defenseman, Barrie's offensive abilities are difficult to contain as he continues to emerge as the Avs' top offensive defenseman. Barrie played a team high 23:44 and now has six points in his past six games. Despite eight power play chances, Barrie picked up only one power play point. He's a must-have for fantasy owners.

After a so-so start to the year, Barrie's been pouring it on lately -- he's on a point-per-game pace over his last six contests. The goal was his first in nearly a month, but Barrie does enough shooting that he should approach double digits as the year wears on.

The goal was his first of the season, and third overall point through seven games. Barrie likely won't put up incredibly high numbers in those categories, but his use on the team's power play unit should increase his value.

Barrie and the Avalanche came to terms Thursday on a two-year, $5.2 million contract, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.

While the Avs' ample talent at forward rightfully commanded most of the attention in their emergence as a Western Conference power last season, Barrie's contributions for the team didn't go unnoticed. Despite appearing in only 64 games, the 23-year-old broke out with 13 goals in 2013-14, the most by an Avs defenseman in seven seasons. Now recovered from a sprained MCL that ended his playoffs prematurely, Barrie's stock should begin to pick up some momentum in fantasy drafts.
