The Colorado Avalanche have recalled defenseman Tyson Barrie from the Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL.

Barrie was recalled due to the injury suffered by Ryan Wilson who keeps re-injuring his ankle. Barrie had a hip injury last week which robbed him of the chance to be re-called at that time but he is now healthy and will be in the Colorado lineup Wednesday. Barrie has a goal and six points in 15 NHL games this season but we cannot recommend him at this time as the Avs are not a good hockey club.

Ryan Wilson is out indefinitely, after he re-injured an ankle against Vancouver. Barrie was recalled to take Wilson's roster spot.

Tyson Barrie is dealing with a hip injury.

Barrie's ailment isn't serious, but it robbed him of a chance to play with the Avalanche. The team were expected to summon him to help out their struggling defense, but with Barrie injured, they went with Stefan Elliott.

Tyson Barrie has been sent down to the minors.

Colorado needed to free up some space for Milan Hejduk (upper body), who is close to coming off the injured reserve. Barrie has a goal and six points in 15 games this season.

The rookie has played well this season so it is surprising to see him get scratched. Barrie has one goal and five assists in 15 games this season. He was also averaging 21:06 minutes a night.

Coach Joe Sacco said that Tyson Barrie will not be a healthy scratch when the Avs get all their defensemen back in action.

The Avalanche currently are missing Erik Johnson and Ryan Wilson but both are ready to return to action, perhaps as early as Wednesday. Joe Sacco stated that Barrie needs to play and would rather have him play a lot with the Lake Erie Monsters rather than languish in the press box with Colorado as a healthy scratch. Barrie has been the Avs top offensive threat on the blueline with a goal and six points in 13 games tying him in points with Jan Hejda.
