Barrie tore it up Friday, bagging his 10th goal of the season to go with a pair of assists and a plus-3 rating in a 5-4 shootout win over the Stars. He also fired five shots on goal.

With seven points in the last four games, the diminutive d-man is officially sizzling. Barrie is up to 39 points in 60 games -- amounting to a very impressive 0.65 points per game -- and should be counted on as a top-10 or top-15 fantasy rearguard in the final quarter of the season.

Barrie sniped his eighth and ninth goals of the season, and added an assist for good measure in Friday's 4-1 win over Chicago. After a ghastly 10-game stretch in December in which Barrie managed just a single point, the mobile rearguard has come alive, racking up 14 points in the last 21 contests. The 23-year-old's 35 points are just three off his career best from last season, and with 23 games remaining, he's a threat to flirt with the coveted 50-point barrier.

Barrie (hip) will return to the lineup Sunday against the Jets, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports.

Barrie did some skating on his own Saturday, but missed Saturday's game against the Wild. He must have seen added improvement over night, as he will now return to the ice after a two-game absence.

Barrie (hip pointer) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Wild, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports.

Barrie was able to skate on his own Saturday morning, but since he didn't take participate with the Avs' healthy regulars, he'll be forced to sit out a second straight game. Coach Patrick Roy will again turn to Stefan Elliott to assume Barrie's spot on the Avs' second defensive pair. Barrie may still have a shot at returning Sunday against the Jets.

Barrie (hip flexor) will travel with the Avalanche on their two-game weekend road trip, but remains questionable to suit up in either contest, Terry Frei of the Denver Post reports.

Barrie missed Thursday's game with the injury and failed to practice Friday, but the team will wait and see how he's feeling Saturday morning before addressing his status for the game later that night against the Wild. The Avs may choose to bring a blueliner up from the minors if Barrie ends up being ruled out for the weekend.

Barrie will miss Thursday's game against the Red Wings due to a hip flexor, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports.

Barrie will be sidelined for the first time this season with the injury, which he likely acquired during Tuesday's victory over the Stars. Stefan Elliott will replace Barrie on the Avs' top power-play unit and on an even-strength pairing with Nate Guenin on Thursday, but he'll likely head back to the press box thereafter. Coach Patrick Roy said that he expects Barrie to return to the lineup for the Avs' next game Saturday against the Wild.

Barrie found twine on one of his three shot attempts in Tuesday's win over the Stars.

Barrie's marker came with just 19 seconds remaining in the third period, allowing the Avs to take the game to overtime before they eventually triumphed in the shootout. With only five goals, Barrie is well short of the 13 he compiled in 2013-14, but he's already matched his assist total (25) from last season, requiring 13 fewer games to do so.

Barrie registered a goal and a power-play assist in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Panthers.

Barrie's fantasy utility has declined a bit this season along with shooting rate, as a sharp dropoff in goals has muted some of his impact. Even so, with 28 points in 45 games, Barrie is still on track to surpass the 38 points he posted in 2013-14. The 23-year-old should remain one of the better fantasy blueliners for seasons to come.

Barrie dished out an assist -- his 20th of the season and second in as many games -- in Friday's 2-1 shootout win over the visiting Oilers.

Prior to Wednesday's game against Philadelphia, Barrie had just a measly three points in 12 December games to go with a minus-7 rating, but he's put together two strong games since, going plus-3 with five SOG and the aforementioned two apples. Barrie is a diminutive, shifty, offense-first defenseman -- similar in profile to the Ducks' Sami Vatanen or the Wild's Jared Spurgeon -- who has managed 23 points in 38 games on a terrible Avs team this season, so if an owner gave up on him in your league, we'd suggest you grab him ASAP.
