Clutterbuck suffered the injury in the second period, briefly returned, but then left the game for good early in the third period. There is no word yet as to the severity of the injury but with the Islanders set to play Sunday versus Buffalo, it would seem unlikely that Clutterbuck would be available to the team.

Clutterbuck sat out Friday's game against the Devils with the injury, which appeared to be for precautionary purposes with the Islanders beginning a back-to-back set. He'll swap in for Mikhail Grabovski, who was forced out of Friday's game with a lower-body ailment.

Clutterbuck's physical nature has made him susceptible to injuries this season, but he's been fortunate to avoid any long-term absences. Staying healthy has allowed Clutterbuck to rank among the league leaders in hits, as his total of 159 ranks third in the NHL.

The lower-body issue kept Clutterbuck out for a game earlier in the week, but it didn't take long for the fourth-liner to return to his usual duties. He chipped in three hits on the afternoon to boost his total to 110 for the season, good for second in the league behind only teammate Matt Martin.

Clutterbuck missed practice Wednesday with a lower body injury, according to Newsday.

Clutterbuck suffered the injury during the Islanders win over Ottawa on Tuesday and is considered to be day to day. With Michael Grabner being activated off of IR on Wednesday the Isles may elect to keep Clutterbuck in the press box Thursday to give him a few extra days to heal.
