The Detroit Red Wings are talking with Daniel Cleary about a contract extension.

Cleary had just eight points in 51 games in 2013-14, so he probably won't get much out of the Red Wings. In fact, it's believed that Detroit might only offer him a two-way deal.

It was like candy in your mouth and your spitting (it out). Kind of gross to talk about. What are you going to do?" He played through some pain in that contest and was in the lineup again on Monday.

Daniel Cleary scored the lone goal for Detroit in its 2-1 loss to the Panthers on Saturday night.

A pretty discouraging performance from the Red Wings at home against a team as punchless as the Panthers. It's pretty alarming that Detroit couldnt't muster up more offense in this one. Cleary's goal was his second of the season. Justin Abdelkader and Cory Emmerton dished out the helpers.

Daniel Cleary will spend Tuesday's game in the press box.

"For a guy of (Cleary's) hockey sense and his ability he's got to be a factor every night and I don't see that," Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said. Cleary is a solid complimentary player with Detroit, but he isn't worth owning in standard leagues.
