Brett Clark has agreed to a 25-game professional tryout agreement with the AHL Lake Erie Monsters. The Monsters are the AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche. Clark, 36, has 45 goals and 186 points in 689 career NHL games.

Brett Clark has been released from his tryout contract with the Florida Panthers. He appeared in eight games with the Minnesota Wild last season. Clark shouldn't be on your fantasy radar even if he finds some other NHL destination to play this season.

Veteran defenseman Brett Clark, signed by the Minnesota Wild to add depth on March 13, could be in the lineup today when the team plays the Los Angeles Kings. Clark has been waiting patiently to get into game action while the Wild has been hot and coach Mike Yeo didn't wish to tamper with the lineup. In the second of back-to-backs, though, Yeo may want fresh legs and have Clark replace left-shot defenseman Justin Falk. Yeo said there's "definitely a possibility" Clark will play today. Asked if he's worried Clark has gotten rusty by having such a long hiatus since playing his last game for AHL Oklahoma City, Yeo said, "The good thing is this guy has played a lot of hockey (681 games with four NHL teams) in his career. If it was a younger player, I think it'd be a different story. It is a priority of ours to get him in very soon. We'll also be a little understanding of the fact that he hasn't playing in a long time. His first shift, if he's less than perfect, we're not going to judge him on that." Falk has been struggling lately.

The Minnesota Wild have confirmed the signing of Brett Clark to a one-year deal. "He's a veteran NHL defenseman who has played a lot of games in the League," Wild GM Chuck Fletcher said. "He's a guy capable of being used in any situation. He certainly provides depth, but also the experience and poise he brings will benefit our back end." Clark had 31 points in 2010-11, but we don't expect him to have much fantasy value with Minnesota as primarily a third-pairing or seventh defenseman.

The Minnesota Wild have reportedly signed Brett Clark. Clark has had some fantasy value in the past, courtesy of his three 30-plus point seasons, but we would recommend tempering your expectations for the remainder of 2013. The Wild will probably use him primarily as a depth defenseman and it's not clear if he'll even play regularly. That being said, he'll still get a lot of blocked shots if nothing else and if your league significantly values that category, then Clark might be worth scooping up.

Brett Clark enters Thursday's action second in the NHL with 186 blocked shots this season. "You know it's going to hurt," he said. "But you still have to stick your neck out for the team. That's what the whole job is." Clark has been dealing with an ankle issue from pucks hitting him and is sporting a swollen bursa that is larger than a golf ball. Unfortunately that category is his only real fantasy value, as he has 14 points and a minus-25 rating this season.
